Injustice: Gods Among Us Year One - The Complete Collection | Tom Taylor
7 posts | 8 read | 7 to read
Inspired by the video game phenomenon, INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US YEAR ONE-THE COMPLETE EDITION collects the initial year of the best-selling series in its entirety for the first time! Superman is Earth's greatest hero. But when the Man of Steel can't protect the thing he holds most dear, he decides to stop trying to save the world-and start ruling it. Now, the Last Son of Krypton is enforcing peace on Earth by any means necessary. Only one man stands between Superman and absolute power: Batman. And the Dark Knight will use any method at his disposal to stop his former friend from reshaping the world in his shattered image. Written by Tom Taylor (EARTH 2) with art by Jheremy Raapack (RESIDENT EVIL), Mike S. Miller (A Game of Thrones) and more, this thrilling graphic novel collects INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US digital chapters 1-36 and in single magazine form as INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US 1-12 and INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US ANNUAL 1.

Well that was DARK. It was also an incredibly compelling read. Naturally, seeing how Superman and Wonder Woman are characterized is unsettling, and the heartbreaking losses just confirm this as a nightmarish 'what if', but what surprised me was the hope, the funny parts, and how much time Harley Quinn got on the page. Those surprises are why I still want to continue in the series. Art preference per issue varied, will see what comes next. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Superman snaps after Lois dies. Batman leads a resistance against the Man of Steel's totalitarian regime. Really fun. Great action. A different twist on our beloved heroes.

Decided to get in on the #graphicnovelweeklongreadathon and the #speechbubblechallenge. I've randomly been in the mood for graphic novels and have read Monstress vol. 1, Paper Girls deluxe vol. 1, and Saga vol. 7 so far, and am almost finished with this one. It's a nice change! Thought this frame worked for #sidekickfromhell. Poor Green Arrow, having to put up with Harley... 😂😂

TricksyTails Yay! 👏😁 Happy you‘re joining the party! 🎉📚🎉📚 6y

I had extremely low expectations because (1) horrendous cover; (2) "based on the hit video game"
BUT! It turned out to be quite a good read - and that's a lot coming from me. I've tried several Superman comics, one Superman and Wonder Woman series but nope, not one of them worked for me. This one though, this video game comic, this one I'm going to continue with!

moranadatter I haven't been a fan of a lot of the Wonder Woman comics, but I loved this one: 7y
RealLifeReading @moranadatter thanks! I recently read the first vol of the Earth One series but it was a bit meh. I'll check this out! 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I check out a lot of comic sites and the consensus on this one is "Why is this book so consistently good? It's based on a video game! But somehow that doesn't stop it from being great!" 7y

IamIamIam Lol, I recently read a book based on the Bioshock games and I was pleasantly surprised! You really CAN'T judge a book by its cover!!!! Haha 7y
alanacristin Ahaha I totally agree with your low expectation points 😂 I'll have to check it out. My husband actually had the game for awhile but couldn't get into it. Also, @IamIamIam i have a Bioshock book on my TBR shelf now! The clerk assumed it was for my husband and was shocked when I said it was mine. Ouf. That cover 😍 7y
IamIamIam @alanacristin HAHA, I know what you mean!! If it's the prequel book, stick with it. I found it a bit wordy & daunting at the beginning but the way all the elements tied in was incredible! And I'm putting this on my TBR, @RealLifeReading ...I have the Suicide Squad novelization on the list too, so this will tie that gift up nicely!! 7y
RealLifeReading @TobeyTheScavengerMonk plus who ever thought that a movie based on a Disneyland ride would make it? 😂 7y
RealLifeReading @IamIamIam haha! Or its game apparently 7y
IamIamIam @RealLifeReading My husband plays it with the kids!!! 😂😂😂 7y
RealLifeReading @IamIamIam also I've been meaning to check out the Suicide Squad comics! 7y
JoRead You hated the cover but I loved it! Lol 7y
RealLifeReading @alanacristin the game that I've read quite a few spinoffs of is Halo! Also while looking up the Bioshock book, I found this series of articles on storytelling in video games! http://www.npr.org/series/510664099/reading-the-game 7y
alanacristin Thanks for sharing those articles! I may have to check out the Last of Us one 💀🍄 i also have a huge kindle tbr stack of World of Warcraft novels 😂 7y
Yanes I am more drawn to the superhero movies than to the comics but I will try this one. Thanks for recommending. 7y
Mommamanzi Oh cool! What do you think the age range is on this? 7y
RealLifeReading @JoRead 😂😂😂I think it's cos they put the Joker front and center and I'm not a fan! 7y
RealLifeReading @alanacristin you're welcome! 7y
RealLifeReading @Yanes you're welcome! It is quite dark so while I like that it may not be for some people. But also it's kinda funny at times! 7y
RealLifeReading @Mommamanzi it's quite violent and dark so I'm not really sure!! 7y
