The Circle Game
The Circle Game | Margaret Atwood
20 posts | 11 read | 12 to read
The appearance of Margaret Atwood's first major collection of poetry marked the beginning of a truly outstanding career in Canadian and international letters. The voice in these poems is as witty, vulnerable, direct, and incisive as we've come to know in later works, such as Power Politics, Bodily Harm, and Alias Grace. Atwood writes compassionately about the risks of love in a technological age, and the quest for identity in a universe that cannot quite be trusted. Containing many of Atwood's best and most famous poems, The Circle Game won the 1966 Governor General's Award for Poetry and rapidly attained an international reputation as a classic of modern poetry. This beautiful edition of The Circle Game contains the complete collection, with an introduction by Sherrill E. Grace of the University of British Columbia.

I‘ve read a lot of Margaret Atwood‘s novels but not many of her poems, so I chose The Circle Game for #authoramonth
Favorites from this collection were The City Planners, Camera, and Spring in the Igloo.

Soubhiville I haven‘t even heard of this one! Great choice! 5y
mhillis @Soubhiville Thanks! My favorites are Hag-Seed and 5y

Started and finished this today, on a rainy, grey, foggy long weekend Monday. My February book for #poetrychallenge2018 and my 1966 book for #192019challenge
I had read one or two of the poems before but most were new to me. I think I will always love themes of liminal spaces and boundaries, definition and self-definition. Much more to get from this collection than one reading can provide.

#JubilantJuly Day 5 - Workaholics

Margaret Atwood is a prolific, literary workaholic. Since 1961, she has published over 65 works - fiction, scripts for TV, poetry, short stories, non-fiction, libretti, children's books, a graphic novel, and several anthologies. While her first work was self-published, these are her earliest (1964) and most recent (2016) commercially published works.

Moray_Reads I had no idea she self-published! 7y
RealLifeReading Had no idea it was that many works! 7y
BooksForYears @Moray_Reads The book is called DOUBLE PERSEPHONE and I'm hoping to one day find a copy that costs less than thousands of dollars. 7y
