pickDanielle Daniel's illustrations here are beautiful and fit the story perfectly. Her story of children identifying with animal totems in the Anishinaabe tradition is absolutely lovely and works so well. The author's note brought the whole thing together. This is well worth the read, and definitely a recommended picture book for all ages.
I missed getting a fair photo from the First Nations library poster. This is another book I'm keeping noted to check out. Something about this reminds me of the film Moonrise Kingdom, with the animal mask kids. 🦊
One of my favourite picturebooks I've read in a while, Sometimes I Feel Like A Fox introduces a new generation (as well as a lost generation) of Métis and Indigenous children to totem animals.
