And finally…my summer reading stack! I thought making a physical stack would help me prioritize the books I want to read this summer, so we‘ll see 🤣. This doesn‘t include #botm picks or anything preordered but I‘m hoping to make it through all of these by the end of August!

I‘ve been on the fence about this, but the author is at the Harrogate Crime Writing Festival in July and I‘m trying to read as many authors as I can before I go.

It was the AI Detective in this that was putting me off, and to start with it made the book feel quite YA, with it being a hologram. After a while though, the twisty storyline overtook that element, and the AI became less ‘obvious‘.

There is a sequel, which I now think I‘ll read.

julesG It sounds interesting. I'll stack it. 2w
squirrelbrain It‘s a bit 🙄 in places @julesG but I think you‘d like it. 2w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now THIS is a thriller!! I can‘t remember the last time a book had me on the edge of my seat like this one! It‘s propulsive without being a mindless popcorn read; the plot was layered and had a lot to say. The tension was agonizing and I was riveted. If you were moved by the “American Nightmare” docuseries, I think you would love this.

⭐️blech! Frustrating, unlikeable characters, unbelievable nonsense! I hated that no one had names and that not one single person believed her. One of the most frustrating characters I ever read in a long time. I expected some cool twist which much would save this book for me. Nope! Lots love it. Good for them. Not for me.

BookMaven9 Most definitely 👍🏼 3w

#BookReport 18/24

I loved the tagged one and bailed on both others. I feel so restless. Excited about the #CampLitsy love and also anxious about the state of the world.

TheKidUpstairs The Future is definitely one that needs full focus. It would be so hard to get into it if you're focus is all over the place! I've had a number of bails recently, too. Many that I'm sure would be great reads at another time. 1mo
BarbaraBB @TheKidUpstairs Your review of it made me want to read it and I am sure I‘d loved it if I would have been more focused! 1mo

This is the fifth book in this British police procedural series, the first of which is “Close to Home“. I am getting to know all the characters and their backgrounds better (there are a lot of them), which adds to the enjoyment. There are two cases in this one, a sexual assault charge by a male student implicating his female Professor and a murder investigation which puts Adam in jeopardy. I am now looking forward to reading the next one. 4.25/5
