Where have I been that #MaisieDobbs is new to me? Well, the timing is perfect & this book hit my current sweet-spot mood-wise mixing mystery, WWI, and a smart female MC. While plot starts with Maisie setting up her investigative office 10 years post-war, much of the book covers her backstory from maid to Uni to frontline nurse. War/postwar topics/feelings are well done. The best part of being late to discover a series? Tons of books ahead of me!

jlhammar I need to get back to this series! I made it through the first three, I think, and really enjoyed them. 16h
elkeOriginal @jlhammar I dove into bk 2 and it is even better! 9h

I‘ve purchased this stack of Jacqueline Winspear books at 2 different used books stores over the past 2 days for my daughter. She is excited and I‘m thankful for media mail. 📦

kspenmoll Yay! Love Maisie! 1mo

Reread this for book club. Winspear writes about the effects of war on the protagonist, Maisie Dobbs, with an eye to the tragic. She can write a lovely sentence laced with deep sentiment. The mystery was interesting. There was a bit too much going on but overall, it was quite good.

I feel like I've been seeing posts on Maisie every time I'm on Litsy lately, and made the happy discovery that my library has at least the first 3 books. I can understand now why these books are so deeply loved and admired. It was really a light but very special read 💜💜💜

kspenmoll Just adore this series- covers world events, Maisie‘s personal & professional growth over time. I hope you grow to love her as I do. 1mo

Maisie confronts political change in #14 in this series.

It‘s 1940.Britain & France are at war with Germany.Maisie is hired to investigate the disappearance of a young man who is working on a secret contract.During the investigative process,Maisie discovers links to the underworld,a beloved friend‘s son goes missing,& allied forces are stranded on the French Coast of Dunkirk. Each of these events affect Maisie‘s life. #serieslove2024

I see why friends have been telling me to read Maisie Dobbs. The first book is so good! It‘s a trope I‘ve seen before (plucky wartime nurse comes home to England after the war, solves mysteries), but I‘m OK with that. I‘m not so sure I‘ll be into the espionage themes in later books, but I enjoyed the first book so much, I‘m willing to try the rest of the series.

kspenmoll A fabulous series! I am nearing the end & want the author ti continue…forever! 1mo
azulaco @kspenmoll I also like the Posie Parker series, although it‘s sort of Maisie Dobbs lite. 1mo

kspenmoll @andrew65 A little crazy over University of Connecticut sports as my son is an alumnus, also he is a huge soccer (football) fan of many teams here & in UK as his cousins lives in Tyne & Wear, UK. (edited) 2mo
Librarybelle I was just talking to a friend the other day about Maisie Dobbs. I have not read a book with her for years! It makes me want to start from the beginning again. Hooray for your Final Four excitement! 2mo
