TSWLM isn‘t my favorite Bond novel, but it‘s one of the most criminally underrated novels ever written. James Bond, driving through the country after the fallout of a previous mission, decides to stay the night because he‘s knackered from all the driving. I‘ll spare any more detail so as to not spoil it, but that‘s where the story takes off at a sprinter‘s pace. Vintage espionage prose and story, romance, brutal action, etc.

Some of Roth's novels have been on my TBR for quite some time and I have yet to take the plunge. I've heard that his works can be separated with a butter knife, in terms of style and literary impact but is that such an uncommon thing to see from 20th century writers who had long tenures? I always enjoy seeing how an author's writing changes as they do, and as time and history progresses.

pickWhat I expected to be a pan based on reviews that I read, turned out to be an absolute delight. As with Bridges, I feel like some readers didn't understand the tranquility of the story. It's not a bloated romance, it's a timeless story of two people and how they can't imagine not being with one another. I also loved the Robert Kincaid reference!
