Since the movie preview is in the can, and the movie isn't far behind, I decided I should read this classic series before I see the Hollywood treatment. Olive the Boston approves.
so-soThis is the third book in a row where I've gotten to a moment in the narrative, and I've just said NO. Not only would this character not do this, no one would. This book has three distinct parts and I just didn't believe the last third, at all. It's a page turner though and if you can reconcile it with the first 2/3's maybe it'll work better for you.
Ditched the Camille Lackberg - the plot was dated and didn't ring true as a motive anymore, although the characters were likable enough. So Since We Fell became my beach read and so far so good!
panThis book was terrible. I don't even know why I wasted my time finishing it. I knew that there was a Swedish author I wanted to read, and it was really Camille Lackberg, and I opened this on my Kindle by mistake - big mistake!! Now, I will read the intended Swedish crime writer as originally planned.
A woman's family disappears from a tiny island, and what follows is page after page of stupidity. I'm half way through, and I don't know if I can bear to stick with this unlikable, unreliable narrator.

so-soThis book was a big disappointment. That's not to say it was bad, it's just that after a few pages I had such high expectations. I had already cast the kids from Stranger Things in the movie version of this 80's nostalgia coming of age story. The 80's are definitely there - the Vanna White playboy, the Commodore 64, the pop music, the clothes - but the story was ordinary, and the big reveal was not very believable. Meh
pickA Man Called Ove is a perfectly pleasant book. While rich with teachable moment quotes, I don't think it actually sheds new light on an particular a ha, life lesson moment. Indeed, Ove's transformation at the end of the book resembles the Grinch that Stole Christmas, in an instant his heart grows 10x, literally, and sets up the ending of the story. I'd definitely recommend it.
Making better use of my travel time! I've become too addicted to scrolling through social media feeds during my commute. It's so mindless, it's all bad news and I don't even enjoy it. Back to Ove!
It took me three tries to get into this book, but now I'm in, and sort of shaking my head about what all the fuss was about - I feel like this is every Clint Eastwood movie I've seen in the last 15 years. This quote really sums up my struggle with this book - I'm skeptical of this relationship that's at the heart of the novel - I know that Ove's actions show he's a good man, but he is also a huge a-hole, and that's attractive because?
