Genre: Fiction
Date Started: December 13, 2019
Date Completed: December 19, 2019
How did you choose this book: I was browsing through the internet and this book interested me.
Summary: A girl named Ally Nickerson has dyslexia and it is hidden from everyone including her teacher. She also has no friends. Her teacher is pregnant meaning that she will be on leave and a new teacher will come in her place to teach.
*288 pages*

DJasmine This new teacher named Mr. Daniels later on finds out about Ally‘s dyslexia and tries to help her overcome this challenge. Mr. Daniels tries to find a variety of ways to help Ally. Along the way of this path, Ally befriends two classmates named Keisha and Albert. In the book, Fish in a Tree, Mr. Daniels says to Ally, “Everyone is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it‘ll spend its whole life thinking 4y
DJasmine I believe that the moral of this story is that everyone is unique in their own way and they shouldn‘t be judged for a characteristic that they have; if they do get judged, then they shouldn‘t care what other people think. This is shown throughout the book because it tells the readers that someone has dyslexia and also gets bullied; but that person doesn‘t give in and instead overcomes this problem with help from the people around them. 4y

Genre: Fantasy
Date Started: November 30, 2019
Date Completed: December 11, 2019
How did you choose this book: I found this book at Dollarama and read the summary, and I decided to buy it.
Summary: Two kids named Patricia Delfine and Laurence Armstead were special. Patricia specialized in talking with animals and even turning into a bird; she gained this ability/magic ever since she found an injured bird and helped it heal.

*313 pages*

DJasmine While Laurence specialized in science; he built a supercomputer and a time machine but could only go 2 seconds forward. These two meet in junior high school and become allies. Although they become allies and push through the never-ending nightmare of junior high, they are separated because of an enigmatic guidance counselor with a hidden agenda. 4y
DJasmine Ten years later, they once again meet as adults and try to reconnect but as they do that, they are drawn into a problem where the world around them is collapsing. This is because there is a war between science and magic. This creates a problem for both of them because one (Patricia) is on the side of magic while the other one (Laurence) is on the side of science. 4y
DJasmine The fate of the world most likely depends on Patricia and Laurence. This war endangers the life on Earth and Patricia and Laurence are expected to combine their specialties to solve this problem. As this all occurs, love between the two adults are also happening. 4y

Genre: Fiction
Date Started: November 14, 2019
Date Completed: November 29, 2019
How did you choose this book: Recommended by someone and I read the summary of the book and was interested.
Summary: [in the comment section]
*254 pages*

DJasmine A 69 year old woman is separated from her husband between the crowds of Seoul subway station. Her family begins to use every possible way to find her; putting up flyers, asking other people if they have seen their wife/mother, etc. As they (her family) look for them, they find out things that they never knew about their mother and wonder if they actually knew the woman they call their mom.
4y
DJasmine In chapter 3, it talks about how the husband just thought of his wife as his children‘s mother. But after his children‘s mother went missing, that was the moment he realized that it was his wife that went missing; his wife that was present in his heart but was forgotten until that moment.
[*continuation in the next comment*]
(edited) 4y
DJasmine I believe that in this chapter, the saying ㅡ “You only realize the importance of someone when they are gone” ㅡ is shown because the husband only realized how important his wife was to him. He also acknowledged the fact that he took his wife for granted. (edited) 4y
DJasmine I believe that the theme of this story/novel is family love. This is because even though they find out things they never knew about their mom and they realize their sorrows, they didn‘t give up but instead kept searching for her. 4y

Title: The Serpent's Shadow
Author: Rick Riordan
Genre: Fantasy
Date Started: October 26, 2019
Date Completed: November 13, 2019
How did you choose this book: I finished the second book of this series and decided to finish the series as this book is the third and final book.
Summary: With a 3 day time limit, Carter and Sadie Kane must find a way to stop Apophis from destroying the world.
*406 pages*

DJasmine The two siblings must perform an execration spell on Apophis' shadow in order to send him back to the Duat. The first challenge they have to overcome is figuring out how to capture a shadow. Then Carter and Sadie have to find where Apophis' shadow is located, in order to capture it. They get help from those who have the information that they need in order to succeed. (edited) 4y
DJasmine It may sound like an easy mission; but along the way, they encounter obstacles and challenges that they have to face in order to continue their journey and save the world from being destroyed. Although they did save the world and sent Apophis back to the Duat, it doesn't mean that it was the end of evil. (edited) 4y
DJasmine There will be more evil and fights to come but as of right now, Carter and Sadie's job is to keep teaching the path of the gods, as their mom said. Not only is continuing to teach the path of the gods their job but also to restore the House of Life back to its former glory and make Egyptian magic stronger than it is now. This is because Carter and Sadie's challenges aren't over. 4y

Title: Otorimonogatari: Decoy Tale
Author: Nisioisin
Genre: Fantasy Fiction
Date Started: September 12, 2019
Date Completed: September 27, 2019
How did you choose this book: I was looking through my bookshelf in my room, saw this book and realized I haven't read it yet.
Write a brief summary of the novel; who was the protagonist; what was his/her problem and how was the problem resolved?: (in the comments section)
*284 pages*

DJasmine Nadeko Sengoku, a middle school student who loves hats to cover up her face along with her very long bangs acting as a shield for her face. Despite her wanting to cover up her face, she has a wish.
On a normal day, she chats with someone she knows. They tell her that they saw Nadeko going to a shrine and praying there but it‘s useless because there is no longer a god there. (part 1/2)
(edited) 5y
DJasmine So that person told Nadeko that there is a talisman that contains a god who is powerful enough to grant her wish once it has been resurrected. Throughout the journey to look for that talisman, Nadeko gets herself cursed; and that talisman that she is looking for may be closer to her than she thinks it is. How will she deal with this curse and will she be able to find the talisman that can grant her wish? (part 2/2) (edited) 5y
DJasmine *Although it may be confusing at first, once you carefully think about it and put the pieces together it will make sense.*
*I've also noticed that there are spelling and punctuation errors that occur throughout the book. This is because this book is a translated version of the original book (meaning english is not the original language it was written in)*
