Once again, it seems Shakespeare is delivery some of his most profound lines through the mouths of professional fools. Act 5 made me like Touchstone a bit more. At least it seemed Audrey did actually love him and he actually loved her...I think.

Jess_Read_This This reminds me of some biblical passage.. 🤔like a proverbs or something. I love that he has the court fool saying this too. 6y

GingerAntics @Jess_Read_This once you said that I started thinking the same thing. I googled it, and it appears that there are a few places in Proverbs that talk about fools, but the second half is always different. It definitely could be inspired from that, though. Good thinking. 6y

I guess Touchstone is having a hard time adjusting to the shepherd life. In my head, he‘s still the funniest, happiest shepherd in the forest, though. lol

GingerAntics @readinginthedark oh I totally agree. I like the Touchstone in my head. I‘m really not a fan of the Touchstone in the play at this part. He‘s become less of a jester and more of a schemer. I‘m hoping he goes back in the next act. (I haven‘t started it yet. I will as soon as I get all of these papers graded.) 6y

readinginthedark Yeah, I think I cast him originally as a humorous sidekick friend to the girls who was motivated by some of the same reasons as themselves for leaving. But now I think he just left because it was something to do. He seems more well-suited to court with his jests, laziness, and irrepressible desire for female “companionship.” (edited) 6y
