A quiet tale, yet full of honesty, hope, vulnerability, and courage. A good fireside story and nice to read a #nativevoices book.

I can't overstate how gorgeous the art in this picture book is. The text is a great introduction to some Lakota beliefs and traditions, and the afterword contains even more clarity and information. It is definitely worth reading and exploring, particularly with older kids. #nativevoices #ownvoices #weneeddiversebooks

I'm glad that native and indigenous picture books are becoming more common, but this one from 1998 is a gem. I love this concept. Asking different people what the most beautiful thing about horses is, mixing in different cultures and languages, and colorful art. A great picture book. #nativevoices #ownvoices #weneeddiversebooks
