I have many. LOL

1. The unreliable narrator. Specifically, the pitiful, drunk, lonely unreliable narrator. Who is invariably a woman. I have read this trope so many times, and it NEVER works, and it never leads to a surprising ending.
2. Insta-love. I met you 2 hrs ago, and I already know you're my soul mate. Get out of my face, weirdo.
3. Info dumps in SF/fantasy books.

Hmmm... off the top of my head:

1. Misogyny & negative female stereotypes
2. Repetition & redundancy (😉)
3. When an author assumes foreknowledge about a given topic (mythology, history, etc) & doesn‘t provide proper context for you to fully enjoy the story.

thereadingowlvina No. 3 is a good one! 😁 6y

Without a doubt my #1 pet peeve is misspelled words 😫 it drives me nuts! Character names that i have no clue how to pronounce are so distracting. 😔 Weak endings. There is nothing worse than a really great story that just ends or leaves too many questions.

thereadingowlvina Misspelled words 😖 6y
cathysaid 1. Name dropping to establish time frame rather than establishing it through description. 2. "Telling" the reader rather than "showing" the reader. For instance, telling the reader the mood is somber rather than showing the reader through a few descriptive paragraphs. 3. Using different fonts to represent different speakers or dialects. I have no idea why that makes me nuts but it does. 6y
bookish_wookish Yes to number 2!!! I didnt even realize it annoyed me until just now!!! @cathysaid 6y

1. Cheesiness of any description 😝
2. When the book is good but the ending feels rushed.
3. Badly written female characters.
#bookspetpeeves @thereadingowlvina

thereadingowlvina Oh yes, cheesiness! 😉 Thanks for sharing 🙋 6y
MissAimz_55 1. Unnecessary filler words 2. Plot twists that don't make sense and seem to be there just for the hell of it or to have an "unexpected ending" 3. Ridiculous gender roles (going along with the weak female characters) (edited) 6y
Christine11 @MissAimz_55 Totally agree with your three ! 😊 6y

rachelk 🙁 Mistakes and oversights that should have been caught before the book was printed. 🙁 Thinly written or stereotypical characters. 🙁 Doesn‘t hold my attention. (edited) 6y
Christine11 @rachelk I hate when there are mistakes or errors that should have been caught too! 😊 6y

Something fun for everyone 😁 Here's mine and can't wait to see yours!

1. Shallow and whiny characters
2. Abrupt ending after a good story buildup
3. Lousy prose

Happy Saturday! #bookspetpeeves
