Oh my lord this narrator is going to give me an aneurysm but I can't stop reading it's so creepy 😵

If anyone needs a book for a challenge with unlikeable, nay, insufferable characters, this here's your book. (It's satire so it's not a terribly misogynistic book.) #litsomnia

Notafraidofwords I bailed. His voice grated at my nerves. 7y
Lissa00 This narrator is the worst...but I couldn't stop reading either😂 7y

BookishFeminist @Notafraidofwords audio or print? I love unlikeable characters, and I don't think you'd be much a fan of this book anyway- just finished 7y
BookishFeminist @Lissa00 😂😂 complete train wreck 7y
BookishFeminist @MsBlueSox yes! At least I'm not hate reading though, the main character just makes me want to blow a fuse at his life choices and opinions 😂 7y
Notafraidofwords @BookishFeminist it was print!!!!!! But his voice reminded me of so many egotistical and maniacs in college. 7y
BookishFeminist @Notafraidofwords Lol yep, I have dated an asshole like this. #neveragain But that's why I'm loving it, mostly bc I think I need something to scream at that isnt politics for a bit. 😂 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Ok, sadly this made me want to read this and see where it goes. Annoying character for sure...but a pretty open discussion about things with a character whose opinions we all know exists in real life. 7y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa go read it! It's satire. Just finished it, loved it. This post definitely not meant to deter anyone from reading it. Just wanted to vent about the vein I'm about to burst every time he opens his mouth 😂 7y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa fwiw I've literally had this exact same argument with several white men this past week so...yea. makes me want to scream and throw things. It's nice it was in a book this time lol 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BookishFeminist and nice that a book is finally capturing that sentiment by white men accurately. I don't know that I've seen that written in print so well before, let alone with a character that then pokes holes in the argument in a fun teasing not debate until death way. 7y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I could have screenshot half of this book with all his holier than thou misogynistic comments 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BookishFeminist We've all heard them, in life and definitely I'm comment sections... but I can't say I've seen that represented in fiction. Which is, this is going to sound really odd, a shame...because years later it would be nice if it was recorded somewhere the passive aggressive little tidbits that had people protesting, etc. The everyday sexism/racism on the daily, by your average Joe, that lead to xyz. Is it weird that I feel like that... 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...logic needs to be preserved somewhere, so in the future people may see what caused some of the controversy. I'm know I'm not explaining this well at all, but I'm glad in a way, to see this dynamic recorded as part of a storyline. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Maybe it's that I feel vindicated seeing it in print and reaffirming that it isn't all in my head and my perceptions.😳 7y
BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I don't think that's weird at all—I feel the same way, especially since it's brought up in satire fiction that's also written by a male author. There's something particularly cathartic about that. I also don't blame you for wanting to feel vindicated—it's nice to have those feelings confirmed by someone besides other women. 😳 dealing with sexism can create a lot of cognitive dissonance so we need reality confirmed. 7y

Once she spoiled Gone Girl for me, that was it. There are some great ideas, but spoiling other books on my bookshelf gives me #bookrage .

BookBabe Bummer. Wait a while and then read it anyway. It's a great read, I loved it. 8y
saguarosally @BookBabe Somehow I managed to reference the wrong book, oops! Anyway, I read the inadvertent spoiler s few months back and still have #bookrage . Maybe I'll try again in a few years! 8y
BookBabe Oh, okay. They do sound similar. I don't blame you for the bookrage! I'd feel the same. I want to read Gone Girl. I saw the movie but heard the book is better (surprise, surprise) 8y
