panI had very high hopes for this novel but I was sadly let down. I thought I was going to learn more about Indonesia than I did. I felt the female characters were too secondary to the male ones. The descriptions and incessant passages on rape grated quickly on my nerves. The author had evidently bitten off more than he could chew in subject matter. #disappointment #beautyisawound #literaryfiction
