This is a straightforward commentary on Shantideva‘s classic text on the way of the Bodhisattva. If you enjoy books by Pema Chodron, I welcome you to dig deeper into Buddhist wisdom with this text. Norman Fischer‘s zen interpretation of this work is also excellent. ☸️ I would have preferred a print edition, but I am rich in Audible credits, so audio had to do.

Read for my friend's online Yoga, Books, & Brunch Club. Discussion was on Sunday. Pic is of my Brunch Tray all prepped.

I really enjoyed Chapter 4 about when things go horribly wrong. And how we react to it.

In the middle it bogged down. Became to woo woo for me and I skimmed a bit. Finished reading last chapters. But all in all I liked the basic message of How We Live Is How We Die.

Kimzey I love the festive holiday china!

This is a Hail Mary or should I say a hail Pema !My mother still ill , I‘m stressed & depressed every day . Plates up in the air , Pema usually calms my mind & kicks out the chaos & stills my monkey brain. Another reason perhaps to have too many books…there‘s one when you need it.

Becker I also love reading Pema Chodrin. You can dip into any of her books at any page and find something comforting and inspiring. 1y
Smrloomis Sending your Mom good thoughts 💕 and glad this helped calm things a bit. Being human sometimes really sucks! 1y

This isn‘t a book I can review in the conventional sense. It‘s meant for the reader alone to interpret and make their own meaning.

This book is an absolute breath of fresh air. Encountering a religious leader who embraces science without rigid reaction or fear that his questioning might lead to a loss of faith is not the experience of my youth. 3/5 Stars

That‘s pretty much where it‘s at for me.I think many of us give power to dwelling on wrongs of the past, depressing emotions, fear of what might happen , anger at those who we think slighted us in some way. And while I know this intellectually , the key is clearing it out.Enjoyable book made me feel grateful for what I have & helping not to cling to stuff & bad emotions.🖤

#NovemberNarrative #KindnessDay #Giving Both prompts made me think of the Dalai Lama.
Compassion goes along with those as well. One doesn‘t have to be a Buddhist to get something from his work.He wants us to be better people , we all need some of that.

Eggs Well done 👍🏼 2y

Uh, I didn‘t know Pema Chödron has published a new book. I happened to fall into Boswell Book Company and saw it on the new releases shelf. Chödron‘s books, When Things Fall Apart & Living Beautifully: with Uncertainty and Change, are two of my go-to life manuals.

sarahbellum Oooo thanks for sharing! 👀 2y
