⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spent 2 weeks with this novel, an ambitious multigenerational epic and a confronting story of race and privilege. Shot through with tracts on Darwinian evolution, genetics and other diversions. It feels nourished by authors like Faulkner and Melville. A cerebral and confronting book and I applaud the attempt to capture something of the nature of race and the cascading consequences of history within a complex and yet very readable 550 pages.

Marchpane Fantastic review Trudie! Sounds like this one had a lot of layers to unpack. 7y
Redheadrambles @ Marchpane, thanks. Yeah I think it's a complex mesh of a book and I can understand people might be disappointed if they thought it would be about horses or a straight forward narrative... 7y

It was an interesting book that at first was hard for me to read but in the end was great. Not sure yet which one of my challenges to put this book in. It was on #TOB2016 list and other award lists. It was based mostly in Russia during the Nazi era with different view points. Would like to read more stories from this author

I am a big fan of satire. Not sure this is a blurb or a quote but Sarah Silverman says, "The Sellout is brilliant. Amazing. Like demented angels wrote it" #TOB2016

Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. (Am just starting this on audio.) #TOB2016

LitHousewife Enjoy. I loved that audiobook. 8y
