Happy birthday Jim Henson, on what would‘ve been your 86th birthday! Thank you for making this world a better place!

Quote from the beginning of this book:

“When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who makes a difference in this world. My hope still is to leave this world a little better for my being here.“ - Jim Henson

More love for this wonderful book. It was challenged in 2015 for containing images of poverty & for downplaying American Exceptionalism.

Boots says, “Hiss!!!” to book bans!

LibrarianRyan I agree. 2y

Challenged by a Wisconsin school board member in 2015 for 1) Containing images of poverty 2) Downplaying American Exceptionalism.

Shameless self-promotion: We will be discussing this book on my podcast Muppet Profiles. 😊

LibrarianRyan 😨 😪 😡Seriously. Someone tried to ban the muppets for showing poverty. 🙄 2y
Kerrbearlib @LibrarianRyan Yup. So ridiculous. 🙄 2y

#SeptemberSenses Day 1: Smith and Armstrong touched on schooling, health, home, and migration – some of the most fundamental rights of every child. While they do show the stark (almost unjust) differences across cultures, the truth is softened a little bit ( #SoftTouch) with Smith including information about the various organizations or nongovernmental groups that serve these children. THIS!!! I do not understand people who think of their children as possessions. Equally, I do not get people who indoctrinate their children and don‘t want their children thinking anything differently than they think. Society has got to start seeing children as human beings.

I am absolutely gobsmacked that children can be entrapped and straight up lied to in schools in TX to get whatever info the school wants. This is NOT okay.

I feel like this is something we need to remember in America, if not around the world. People have no problem hurting children (did you know America refuses to put the UN‘s Convention on the Rights of the Child before the senate for ratification, to protect the human rights of children, even though they helped draft it?), no problem taking from children, no problem writing off children because of their race, gender, religion, or place of origin.
