The book was well written but not well researched. The book takes place in 1982 and mentions things that did not happen until 2010. Also while I know the town is fiction the geographic details are off.

A video game that brings out the worst of a person‘s personality? One that literally turns people into murderers? Super creepy concept - especially given how addicting all video games seem to be for a lot of people. The author did a good job of keeping my interest and keeping me listening. The narrator though? Not a favorite. She was so monotone, no matter what was happening! Still happy I finished it! 🌟🌟🌟
Based on an 80's urban legend of a cursed video game, an aspiring computer programmer accepts an arcade position in her little California seaside town. As the patrons flock to try out the newest arcade sensation, Polybius, it becomes apparent that something is off as the residents begin experiencing subliminal messages, turning them into mindless, violent drones. It's up to a group of unaffected citizens to save everyone in this sci-fi horror.
This was a random library find last week. I really enjoyed this fast-paced unhinged horror story about a small town that is changed by a mysterious new arcade game. While googling the title just now I see that it's based on an actual urban legend:

Unrelated to the book, I saw “Sinners“ last night. Def one of the best movies I've watched this yr.
Based on an urban legend about a video game that causes changes in people's brains, I was really excited to read this. This book was very tense, as the effects of the game begin to permeate the town. This book was very violent. It is awful to see how quickly a group of people can devolve into extreme violence. The scariest part of the book was how believable it was, that the government would destroy an entire town to cover up what happened there.
