Seven friends throw a 1920s–themed party, where it's all pretend—until one of them is murdered. One of Us Is Lying meets Knives Out in this glamorous locked-room mystery. "A can't miss for mystery fans." —Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times bestselling author of Girl in Pieces and The Agathas Someone brought a knife to the party. To celebrate the end of high school, Izzy Morales joins her ride-or-die Kassidy and five friends on a 1920s–themed getaway at the glamorous Ashwood Manor. There, Izzy and her friends party in vintage dresses and expensive diamonds—until Kassidy’s boyfriend turns up dead. Murdered, investigators declare when they arrive at the scene, and now every party guest is a suspect. There’s the girlfriend, in love. The other girl, in despair. The old friend, forlorn. The new friend, distressed. The brooding enigma. And then, there’s Izzy—the girl who brought the knife. To find the killer, everyone must undergo a grueling interrogation, all while locked in an estate where, suddenly, the greatest luxury is innocence.

This was a somewhat entertaining teen mystery that I think the target audience would enjoy much more that I did. That being said it was still a fun read featuring a group of incredibly wealthy teens that provided a glimpse into a world most of us will never experience. I did find the prologue set up and its implications a bit clumsy but I was able to overlook that as the story continued. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC. 3.25/5 stars

Rich teens are having a 1920s themed graduation party in a historic mansion on an island when one of them is murdered.

Entertaining and fast-paced

YA Knives Out meets One of Us Is Lying is such a great description of this book. This was such an engrossing and zippy ready; all the characters were unique and the individual mysteries that unfold was fun to learn. Add in gorgeous 1920s costumes and a good ending, making this a great read.

I was *so* looking forward to this. It turned out to be lackluster, IMHO—heavy on repetition and largely centered on entitled rich kids. There were a couple of tiny twists, but nothing earth-shattering.

No worries—I'm already on another mystery that is much more engaging. 😉

This had a great setup but even with my expectations lowered for a YA, I was still sadly let down by this. It tried way too hard to set up a red herring with the prologue. And when the secret is finally revealed and we get the explanation for Izzy's behavior...it's just really illogical and clumsy. The plot also felt somewhat lazy, in the way it set up for Izzy to learn about the entire investigation.

A group of seven friends travel to Ashwood Manor, a mansion which is being turned into a museum. Before the big opening the group get to stay at the Manor, on Sparrow Island, for a week's holiday after graduating. Izzy is there with Kassidy, latest crush Marlowe, Kassidy's bf, Blaine, athlete & rower Ellison, theatre kid Fergus, & newcomer to the group Chloe. There are tangled group dynamics & secrets galore, which culminate in a murder. (cont)

OutsmartYourShelf I was looking forward to this from the synopsis & it turned out to be rather Agatha Christie-esque in parts: a group isolated in a grand house, a murder, lots of suspects all with motives, & the big reveal by the detectives at the end. I loved the setting & the fact that the friends were having a 1920s themed stay - it's one of my favourite historical eras. I found that apart from main character Isadora (Izzy) & Marlowe (to an extent) the rest of 8mo
OutsmartYourShelf the group's characters were just 'bored rich kid'. It was interesting enough to finish reading but but I can't say as I would be in a rush to re-read it. 3â

My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Bonnier Books UK/Hot Key Books, for the opportunity to read an ARC.
