The Sweet Smell of Psychosis
The Sweet Smell of Psychosis: A Novella | Will Self
1 post | 2 read
A brief and brilliant satire of magazine hacks and fashionistas, The Sweet Smell of Psychosis shows Will Selfa writer hailed by Time as brilliant, iconoclastic . . . one of Britains most original young writersat the top of his form. It looks like its going to be quite a Christmas for Richard Hermes, powdered with cocaine and whining with the white noise of urban derangement. Not so much enfolded as trapped in the bosom of the most venal media clique in London, Richard is losing it on all fronts: hes losing his heart to Ursula Bentley, a nubile and vacuous magazine columnist; hes in danger of losing his job at the pretentious listings magazine Rendezvous; hes losing his mind courtesy of Colombias chief illegal export; and, worst of all, hes losing his soul . . . to the king-of-all-media and sinister purveyor of opportunitiessexual, chemical, and professionalknown only as Bell. Murky, paranoid, and hilarious, The Sweet Smell of Psychosis is Will Self at his best.

Mehso-so

I was intrigued when I got this odd novella from my local used book store when I went to swap some books. Having just finished the last page, I ended this thinking what the F? I mean, I guess that is a place to end a story, but it just feels so unfinished. And he really left the protagonist in an unfortunate position. Wild and sometimes disturbing, and peppered with illustrations, I‘ll say I was entertained, but also, WTF 🤔 🧐 🤨

SamAnne I notice there are no stack adds based on your review…😂😂 2y
Cosmos_Moon_River @SamAnne 😂 I read the last page and turned it thinking there must be more and the next page just had the little about the author paragraph. 2y
