One magical inn, two kids with supernatural powers, and an ancient Celtic creature trying to destroy their world by Halloween night... Halloweentown meets Supernatural in this spooky middle-grade series from the acclaimed author of the Storm Crow duology! Thirteen-year-old Annabella Ballinkay has never been normal, even by her psychic family's standards. Every generation uses their abilities to help run the Ravenfall Inn, a sprawling, magical B&B at the crossroads of the human world and the Otherworld. But it's hard to contribute when your only power is foreseeing death. So when fourteen-year-old Colin Pierce arrives at Ravenfall searching for his missing older brother and the supernatural creature who killed their parents, Anna jumps at the chance to help. But the mysteries tied to Colin go much deeper than either of them expects. . . . As the two team up to find answers, they unearth Colin's family's secret past and discover that Colin has powers beyond his imagination. And now the supernatural creature, one with eerie origins in Celtic mythology, is coming after him. If Anna and Colin can't stop the creature by Halloween night, the veil to the Otherworld could be ripped open--which would spell destruction for their world as they know it.

This would be a perfect fall read, and Luthien thinks I‘ve stayed up too late reading the rest of it! Anna is a teenager in a family with psychic powers that also run a bed & breakfast. She meets Colin, who is just now learning his own connection to magic after the murder of his parents. Together they work to find the killers. The book has a sequel, but it also works very well as an independent story.

Daisey @mabell @tpixie Earlier this week we were visiting my sister and she got to run free for hours smelling all the things on the farm, but now she‘s back to loving that she can get cozy on the furniture. 4mo

This middle grade story takes place in the days leading up to Samhain and has cozy fall vibes while the characters fight an evil wraith.

This was a hard one for me to rate because I thought it was a fun story, but at the same time, it didn't feel developed enough. It didn't have much depth, which is fine in a middle grade book, but I think it would have made the book richer. I didn't find it memorable. While being something I really wanted to enjoy, I felt indifferent toward it. I'm going to read the next book, and maybe that will help sort out my mixed feelings.

This was a lovely middle grade. It does deal with grief, death, and murder of parents. The main characters are about 14 in age.

Ravenfall is a magical B&B standing at the border between our world & the Otherworld & the family that runs it all has useful magical powers except for Anna whose only power is foreseeing death. But then Colin shows up looking for his missing brother & information about the magical creature that killed their parents. Soon, even greater mysteries are revealed even as the border between the Otherworld & ours weakens. A fun story with sequel coming.

This is a fun middle grade fall adventure with magic and friendships and family. The pacing felt a bit off for me overall and I just haven‘t read anything middle grade in a long time so I think my expectations were maybe not realistic. I would be interested to read the next one in the series next fall so it‘s still worth a read for a light autumn spooky vibes book.
