“Somehow lookin' at her made all of the combat make some sort of sense. I felt like I was doin' all this warrin' for her... for kids just like her.“

I would most definitely use this book in my classroom because the ending was so beautiful and moving that I feel like it needs to be shared with everyone to spread awareness about being kind. Although the book was longer, it was worth the read.

Tucky Jo and Little Heart written by Patricia Polacco. Tells the true story of a World War 2 veteran, Johnnie Wallen, and how he saved a little girl from war over in a different country. Years later their lives cross paths again and in a very moving, sincere way. This story is very accurate considering it came directly from Johnnie and it's very authentic as well.

This book would be great in an older elementary school, but should be read in two sessions since it is very long.

She reached out and touched one of the swollen bug bites on my arm. Then she bent down and plucked a plump leaf from a ground-huggin' plant. She broke it in half and squeezed the goo that was oozing out of it on the bite. It was instant, blessed relief.

I like how the girl, Little Heart, does not speak English but still shows her kindness to Tucky Jo. I think this is a heartwarming story.

This is an amazing historical children‘s book. I love thé story line and the illustrations. Everything about this book makes me want to read it over and over to anyone who would listen. I love how it talks about the ugliness of war as well as the other cultures view on the war. This book doesn‘t sugar coat war for the children. Instead it is honest and shows what can come out of war if those fighting have the right intentions.
