DS9 #3.21 #TheDieIsCast, part 2 of Improbable Cause. Titled for the transliteration of Julius Ceasar's “Alea jacta est“. A great episode, terrible to watch, where Garak tortures Odo in order to gratiate himself to Enabran Tain, whom we deduce is his father. He regrets it. Why this does not affect Odo's relationship with Garak in future episodes is an oversight. I avoid watching it, it's too hard. #startreksummerjune

Sunraven This is making me want to rewatch the series. I‘ve only seen it once all the way through because I was avoiding it for some silly reason, and now it‘s my favorite Star Trek. I will never get over how much I like DS9 Cardassians — okay, Gul Dukat and Garak specifically. Me and my fondness for snarky, complicated characters who weird other people out... 5y
tournevis @Sunraven I get you! It's on most steaming services, in Canada at least. I think Netflix in the US? 5y
Sunraven In fact, the first and only time I‘ve seen it so far was on Netflix. 😁 We binge-watched all the Star Treks (minus the ones not on Netflix, so no Discovery) back to back last year, which was really interesting for comparison purposes. 5y

tournevis @Sunraven Space has daily Star Trek (TOS Mondays 😊) so I'm rewatching the first five series constantly. And it's remakable how badly TNG (Tuesdays) holds up compared to DS9 (Thurdays), but ENT (Fridays) has the fewest good episodes over all. 5y
Sunraven Seeeeriously, I used to think TNG was my favorite, but I realized last year that it was mostly because of the actors (Patrick Stewart can, after all, literally say nonsense words and make it sound reasonable) and the goofy episodes. It was funny seeing that some of TNG makes way less sense than some of TOS, and yet I remembered TOS as being wacky and nonsensical. Admittedly that was a decades-old menory. 😆 5y
tournevis @Sunraven The actors in all ST series are fabulous (yes, even Will Wheaton) but the writing, sometimes, in TNG (season two 🙄) was uneven. There was Inner Light (glorious, amazing) but there was also Hollow Pursuits (cringe). 5y
tournevis @Sunraven Talking about decades old memories, Netflix had the old timey French dub tracks of TOS and I often rewatch them, just for the childhood nostalgia. Same with TAS. 5y
Sunraven Lack of sleep is totally catching up with me; I didn‘t even notice until just now that I typed “menory.” 🤪 (Makes me think of the Harper Hall novels...)

My least favorite thing about TNG might be the recurring megalomaniacal/suicidal scientists and amoral “brilliant” people who apparently don‘t understand critical thinking or logic. 😣 Or maybe the bullying antagonists who set up arbitrary moral conflicts, or ... No, I shouldn‘t rant. 😆

Sunraven Though I will note that I can also never get over how Riker is constantly standing awkwardly (to fit into the shot? Jonathan Frakes is rather tall). And I happily admit that the ending of TNG was unexpectedly satisfying for me, so at least it wrapped up decently.

Oh, have you read the novel that (I think) Andrew Robinson wrote about Garak? I downloaded a sample and it didn‘t look too terrible...

tournevis @Sunraven The book is GOOD! And as queer as Robinson wanted Garak to be on screen and Berman wouldn't have it. A delight. 5y
tournevis @Sunraven 😂😂😂We agree! 5y
Sunraven Cheers for agreement, and cheers for a good Garak novel, then! That‘s going on the definite to-read list ... Garak is one of my favorite ST characters of all time. 💖

And now I‘m about to fall asleep so I‘ll stop spamming your feed for now. 😆
