Pickpick

This was a surprisingly pleasant read!!! I love the humble sweetness of Alice the Shepherdess‘ story. It contrasted really well with the story of Otho the Miller‘s son, which was the most well written. Jacob and Petronella‘s dialogue was very touching as well. And I learned about treatment of the Jews in Medieval times, something you don‘t often hear about. Great book! #NewberyEpicChallenge

But dark of the night, I hear that sound- sweat in my sleep, and my spear slips through my hand- I dream that I'm back in the woods with that boat.

I enjoyed how the illustrations were created using pen and ink, inspired by the Munich-Nuremberg manuscript which is a poem from the 13th century, Germany.

Mehso-so

This book takes place in the medieval times. The lord's nephew, Hugo, proves his manhood by hunting a wild boar. Nelly supports her family by selling live eels. Mogg, a peasant, gets a clever lesson in how to save a cow from a greedy landlord. Barbary slings mud on noble Jack and Alice is the singing sheperdess. This book is a collection of voices from a medieval village and presents information on their daily lives.
