Cosmicomics | Italo Calvino
Enchanting stories about the evolution of the universe, with characters that are fashioned from mathematical formulae and cellular structures. Naturally, we were all there, - old Qfwfq said, - where else could we have been? Nobody knew then that there could be space. Or time either: what use did we have for time, packed in there like sardines? Translated by William Weaver. A Helen and Kurt Wolff Book

“Novelists tell that piece of truth hidden at the bottom of every lie. To a psychoanalyst it is not so important whether you tell the truth or a lie because lies are as interesting, eloquent, and revealing as any claimed truth. I feel suspicious about writers who claim to tell the whole truth about themselves, about life, or about the world. I prefer to stay with the truths I find in writers who present themselves as the most bold-faced liars.”

Not entirely sure what I think of this yet. The concepts are cool, but I don't love the writing and a lot of the stories seem kinda sexist. #college #currentread #stillalive

While I always loved SciFi, this was the first that really blew my mind, and had me looking at the genre in new ways. I owe it a huge debt. #READATHONBLOB #SCIFI

GatheringBooks an illustrated calvino? wow. 7y
BibliOphelia @tpixie The cover was very 'Space Opera Escher' back in the 80s when I read it 😉 7y
BibliOphelia @GatheringBooks Other than the Escher cover, I don't remember any other illustrations in my edition, although it's been a while. I loaned it out in my 20s and never got it back. It's one of those books that I keep meaning to replace! 7y
tpixie @BibliOphelia i thought it looked like an Escher! 7y

This is the most #outofthisworld book I know. Calvino enchants you with stories about the creation of the universe. His characters are elemental particles, mathematical formulae, planets, stars and galaxies, and he brings them to life in a very human way. #booktober

#translatedbooks Shout out to William Weaver who translated these from Italian. I can only imagine how beautiful Calvino's books are in his original language but Mr. Weaver does an amazing job keeping them magical. These are unlike anything you've ever read before.

BkClubCare If On a Winter's Night was SO interesting. ❤️ 8y
Kirstin @BkClubCare -My love for that book knows no bounds. I can read it over and over. :) 8y
