Fascinating and enraging Saturday morning read.
Fascinating and enraging Saturday morning read.
I love how this blends first-person memoir with the history of Rocky Flats and nuclear weapons production.
Please recommend any narrative nonfiction books you loved which do something similar in how complex braided themes are introduced! (If you know of others.) Thank you in advance!!
Narrative nonfiction by a woman who, as the title suggests, grew up in a small Colorado town close to Rocky Flats, a secret nuclear weapons plant once designated "the most contaminated site in America." The author intersperses the history of the nuclear facility with memories of her less-than-ideal childhood and family issues. I found myself skipping over the pages on the family life to get to the details of Rocky Flats. Still a decent read.
Debating between 2.5 and 3 stars out of 5. Didn‘t care about author‘s dysfunctional family or her crappy young adult decisions. However, her writing on Rocky Flats was awesome and I learned a lot.
Starting this tonight
Ever heard of Rocky Flats, CO? Incredible story! If you think US Govt has humans' best interests at heart, please read
This book is 80% expose on Rocky Flats and 20% dysfunctional family story, and it is SO good! The subject itself is kind of dry but the details of mismanagement, public endangerment, and government coverup are juicy.
