Bare Minimum Parenting
Bare Minimum Parenting: The Ultimate Guide to Not Quite Ruining Your Child | James Breakwell
43 posts | 2 read | 9 to read
This isn’t a book about overachieving at parenting. This isn’t even a book about achieving exactly the right amount. This is a book about doing as little as possible without quite ruining your child. Overachieving parents want you to believe the harder you work, the better your kid will turn out. That lie ends now. The truth is most kids end up remarkably unremarkable no matter what you do, so you might as well achieve mediocrity by the easiest possible route. The goal of “bare minimum parenting” is to turn your child into a functional adult with only a fraction of the effort spent by super moms and dads. If you do it right, your kid will be no better or worse off than their kids, but with more free time left for you. That's more valuable than all the participation trophies in the world. In Bare Minimum Parenting, amateur parenting expert James Breakwell will teach you to stop worrying and embrace your child's destiny as devastatingly average. To get there, you'll have to overcome your kid, other parents, and yourself, all of whom will push you to do more than is absolutely necessary. Honestly, by reading this far, you’re already trying too hard. But don't stop now. You're exactly the kind of person who needs this book.

olivia.ferz I clicked on the title of the book and read the blurb and all the posts about it. They were so hilarious.😂 Now I can't wait to buy this book! (Though I'm only 20 and not a parent) 4mo
RadicalReader @olivia.ferz I‘m not a parent either but I really have been cracking up while reading this. I highly recommend you also check out his Twitter account XplodingUnicorn 4mo
DianeDeMasi ??? we have 18-year-old twin boys. When they bring friends home it's like locusts have blown through and decimated the kitchen. I used to marvel at the container sizes at Costco, now I'm always, "can't they cram a few more pounds in?" (edited) 4mo

RadicalReader @DianeDeMasi 😂😂😂😂 completely understandable completely relatable probably the best place to buy potato chips get a full size bag there and not 3/4 bag of air like other places 4mo
DianeDeMasi @RadicalReader ordered Bare Minimum Parenting. Tomorrow's plan? Stare out window until it arrives and then dive in. 🤗🤗🤗 4mo
RadicalReader @DianeDeMasi wonderful plan I love it tomorrow‘s supposed to be a blizzard here and not the delicious Dairy Queen variety but the cold and snow filled one so good day to stock up on hot cocoa and many marvelous books can‘t wait to find out what quotes, blurbs and review you write about it 4mo

People don‘t hesitate to call you every name in the book. I‘m not sure what book, but it must be a short one. Most of its words only have four letters. #BareMinimumParenting #JamesBreakwell

No defendant has ever gotten off the hook by telling a judge:” it‘s not my fault, Your Honor I went to a sub par preschool!” That excuse might play well in the court of parental opinion but it‘ll still get your kid 25 to life. #JamesBreakwell #BareMinimumParenting

RadicalReader @LazyDays truly funniest book I have ever encountered strongly and highly recommend to all who love a lasting laugh 4mo
LazyDays @RadicalReader Stacked high on my list! Thanks for sharing! Just reading your Blurbs had my giggling. 4mo
RadicalReader @LazyDays no better way to start off the week than with laughter. If possible I recommend that you see if Libby ( its the redone version of the Overdrive app allowing you to enjoy ebooks and audiobooks) has it it just connects to your library card and uses your library pin to sign in. My favorite because I don‘t have to remember log in info 4mo
LazyDays @RadicalReader agreed! I'll have to try Libby, thank you. I still use overdrive. 4mo
RadicalReader @LazyDays awesome no problem and If not see if you can request it on your library‘s website that was how I got mine from inter library loan a lot of libraries participate in this loaning books from other libraries if they don‘t have the book. 4mo
LazyDays @RadicalReader thats really cool I didn't know that! 😊 thank you! 4mo

RadicalReader @WhatThePuck it‘s honestly an amazing read and would also gift graciously to friend and family who enjoy funny and fantastic books 4mo
WhatThePuck @RadicalReader I try to avoid overachieving parents at all costs. It's really hard when my brother and sister in law are overachieving parents. My kid is a social deviant to their kids and only bc he knows how to use curse words in context. 🤣 4mo
RadicalReader @WhatThePuck don‘t know if that‘s brilliant bibliophile in the making or creepy ninja 4mo

readinginthedark 😆 My son really likes kale. But I do think people get carried away sometimes, especially when it comes to their kids! 5mo
RadicalReader @readinginthedark everything in moderation. Like when children bring sandwiches to school how some children can have nut allergy it is nice know that if you tell your child not to share their lunch with anyone because of others having allergies to food they can still have some delicious lunches if that is what the parents have on hand for them. 5mo
readinginthedark True! Well, except peanut butter. There are a couple of kids at my son's school with really severe nut allergies, so no one can have nuts or nut butter. But at least they provide sun butter for kids who want someone similar! 5mo

readinginthedark *something similar 5mo
RadicalReader @readinginthedark that is a good thing to have alternatives for children so they can enjoy same type of food 5mo
readinginthedark Agreed! 5mo

Joking, not joking. In 3 easy steps, he shows how you can parent with the same outcome but with less stress. There are more truths and wisdom in than I expected, and would actually classify this as a legit parenting book rather than parenting humor book. Skip all the inset graphs (they‘re not that funny) and you can read this in one sitting.

RebL I have used this technique. I‘m not saying it‘s appropriate, just that I‘ve done it. 6mo
alvingregorio @RebL Everyone has done it. That's what makes it funny! We gotta do what we gotta do. Parents unite! 6mo
