Letterpress: The Allure of the Handmade | David Jury
4 posts
Newly revised and updated with luscious and inspiring images of contemporary work, this book allows todays graphic designer to rediscover the creative potential of letterpress. Thanks to its physical presence on the page, letterpress has a unique and visual impact, and offers a powerful means of expressing ideas through a more intelligent use of type. Despite the dominance of computer typesetting and printing in trade publishing, private letterpress publishers are on the increase. This timely book celebrates the diversity of the original work being produced by graphic designers and typographers using letterpress around the world. It examines US and European private presses, top international graphic designers working with letterpress, the use of letterpress as a commercial medium in developing countries, and new developments in technology. A celebration of the handmade design aesthetic currently enjoying a period of revival, Letterpress is an indispensable reference for both professional and amateur creatives, and all letterpress enthusiasts.

My #LLWS package came in today!! Thank you, @sharread !! Not pictured are the catnip and treats I had to hide from Cozzy, and the toy he stole from out of the box.

Just posted some #litsylove And the good news seems to be not only do I get to connect to awesome people but the process of writing is slowing my brain, increasing my memory, ensuring I‘m open to greater opportunities for creativity and critical thinking skills. Long live pen and paper!

nelehelen Yesss! I am also now writing all of my letters in cursive. Gotta keep it alive!! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Yes!!!! I love our group 💗💗💗 5y
Kayla.Adriena When I was a student I always had to write my notes! And then re-write things as I was studying. A lot of people think millenials are enamored with technology but I couldn't imagine not having actual textbooks and paper ! My friend has a pre kindergartener and pretty sure he was issued an iPad 😫 5y

Mitch @Kayla.Adriena I agree. Something h definitely happens in my brain when I write things by hand, that doesn‘t happen when I tap the keyboard. 5y

So cool to visit the brand new BookLab at UMD! I even got the chance to run my own print on the letterpress.
