(Edit: Thanks to those who quickly pointed out to me how problematic this metaphor is. Leaving the post up to own up to my mistake.)

SURVEY: Do those outside traditional publishing recognize the word “galley” or has it been replaced with “ARC / advanced copy”?

Looking to start a consulting/bookkeeping business for indie authors and playing with names.

“Beyond the Galley”
“Galley Breakout”

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

BookishMarginalia The first think I think of is galley kitchen… not helpful, I know! 3y
bookseller_cate @BookishMarginalia Exactly what I wondered. 😆 Galley kitchens originated at sea. I‘m hoping to indicate that I‘ll work like-a-galley-slave for my authors. Maybe it‘ll work with the right logo? 3y
DivineDiana I think any thing to do with a “slave” will be off putting to say the least. (edited) 3y

bookseller_cate @DivineDiana Excellent point. Time go back to page one. Shoot. I really liked the “beyond the galley / after publication” metaphor. 3y
DivineDiana You‘ll come up with a better one! 3y
bookseller_cate I hope so. Definitely got hit with a realization of my privilege. Thanks so much for your comment. ❤️❤️❤️ 3y

I went around another secondhand bookstore today and saw this! Heehee! It's funny to me because the first syllables of my first and last names are Ben and Hur respectively. IDK if that was deliberate but I'm okay with it not being my nickname ever. 😋
