What an absolutely lovely biography. I have known the Mike Mulligan steam shovel books and the others all my life, but I never thought about where they came from. Now we all do. This story was wonderful and lovingly illustrated.

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is an absolutely wonderful book about the author who brought the world Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. The author created the books for her children and her love of art. I really liked this biography because right away i knew who they were talking about, but it felt more like a story than a biography.

Leftcoastzen The Little House is my favorite children‘s book ever. Loved it as a child, love it now. 6y

Delightful, gorgeous picture book bio of author and artist Virginia Lee Burton. Animated portayal of how she created her now classic storybooks (Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel, etc) for her vehicle loving sons. Inspiring example of an art making mom. The decorative motifs in Katy and the Big Snow make so much sense knowing Burton's work designing textiles. #mommyreads #babyreads #workingmom #bio #artmaking #picturebooks

I have always loved Virginia Lee Burton‘s stories. Anyone who can make me care about a steam shovel must be a fantastic storyteller.

This is a beautifully executed biography. Well told, with illustrations that are reminiscent of Burton‘s illustrations, but showing Burton fully engaged in her creation. What a delightful tribute to a wonderful author and illustrator.

Tamra Stanley is one of my earliest reading memories. 😊 7y
