I finished this book like 2 weeks ago and I STILL haven't stopped talking about it! I got to meet the author and I'll have an interview posted with her on my blog tomorrow. The book is based on her grandma (American) living in China and barely escaping as World War II is breaking out. (!!!) 📖👍🏼

BookishFeminist I'm gonna have to check this out. I absolutely love the cover! 8y

So good! I'm still trying to articulate how fantastic this book is. Reason being that I stayed up til 4am because I couldn't put it down (& my brain doesn't work so well at 4am). But the fact that it kept me up is a glowingly positive review. :)

MyBookLife What is it about? 8y
OffTheBeatenShelf.com @MyBookLife This American family is living in China at the start of the Japanese invasion in 1937 as tension is building toward WW2. There's tension between the Chinese (Nationalists vs Reds), the Chinese & the Japanese, the mother & son, the main character family & the other Americans... Good stuff 8y
OffTheBeatenShelf.com @MyBookLife And there are some good twists. (No spoilers) people aren't who you think they are, they're hiding things... Just all around superb book. Lots of interesting details, captivating setting, complex characters. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you like Chinese culture. 8y
MyBookLife @OffTheBeatenShelf.com It sounds great! I wasn't drawn just to the cover, but now I am intrigued. Gonna add it right away! Thanks :) 8y
