4/5⭐ You know what? I enjoyed this book. It's not the greatest thing, and Mlle. Julie's actions often didn't make sense to me. However, the writing was lovely, and Olivia's coming-of-age struggles and thoughts seemed so real and genuine. I think the author drawing from some of her own teenage experiences helped this book come to life. It was a short, quick read that I will probably come back to again. #projectnew #projectTBR #atozreadathon

When I find one, I can't resist buying a Virago Modern Classic, publisher of so many lesser-known/forgotten #female writers.
Now I should start reading them too. 😮🤔

merelybookish @jillrhudy @Leftcoastzen Yes, me too! They are hard to resist! 6y
merelybookish @Weaponxgirl Oh cool! Have you read any that you'd recommend? Of my stack, I've only read one: Saraband 6y
Weaponxgirl I haven't read any from that stack, I meant as a series they are great as I've only ever read a few total duds. Sorry I wasn't clear. From Vmc in general some standouts have been Mrs palfrey at the Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor and all passion spent by vita sackville west. Both are about elderly women and were superb which I never would have found on my own. I have others but running out of space so let me know if you want more Recs for Vmc 6y

Mehso-so

I didn't love this book. I found the characters flat and didn't get emotionally involved at all.

DivineDiana I love the cover! 📚 7y
