Mighty Moby | Ed Young
4 posts | 2 read
A Moby Dick-inspired picture book adventure unlike any you've ever seen--with a surprise ending--from Caldecott Medal-winning artist Ed Young. Deep in the dark ocean, Mighty Moby lurks. Up above the ocean waves, a one-legged captain pursues the whale he clashed with long ago. Mighty Moby and the captain are soon locked in another battle...but things aren't always what they seem. Caldecott Medalist Ed Young brings us a dynamically interactive story with a surprise twist that will have you rocking along to the waves of the ocean.

I love how this story is a collage of different pieces and parts of real life objects. I also really enjoyed how he separated reality from make believe by showing real people and the fake paper mache story characters.

Pickpick

This book is a take on the story of Moby Dick. I love the different art styles that were used to create this story. It‘s a mess but an interesting mess. It makes you use your own imagination to really see and put all the pieces together. The author said that they created the pictures first then put the put the words in. I love how I‘m the end we get to see reality separated from this child‘s make believe story.

This Moby Dick-inspired #picturebook takes a turn! The illustrations were done first by Ed Young (brillz as per usual) and then Barbara Dacosta adds text--all but one word from the Melville classic. Almost makes me want to retackle that book that got away... almost.
