Sooooooo long and such hard going. I gave it my best shot but just couldn't get into it. It reminded me of walking the 80+ miles of Hadrian's wall - painful, full of stumbling and bumping into people I'll never remember the names of and a strong desire to just get to the end as quickly as possible. I've nothing against Gemmell - maybe his writing just isn't for me.

WHY???? Why do I have to get THIS far into the book before it gets remotely interesting??? Why my Littens? WHY?

BookishMarginalia I am impressed with your ability to stick with it! I would fave bailed long ago! 8y
Martyn_J_Pass @BookishMarginalia It's my first time reading Gemmel so I thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but man, it's tough going!! 8y

Bailedbailed

I bailed on this one because by page 50, I only thought one scene showed any progress in the story/was interesting. The rest was taking too long, going over the same setting from different perspectives to set up the characters but without moving forward at all. I skipped ahead and it was dry.
