Sam, Bangs, and Moonshine left a mark on me. This RF picture book has amazing illustrations done by Evaline Ness, who is also the author, and she tells a story about a girl who is constantly lying. Her imagination with her compulsive lying causes her to nearly lose two of her friends in a horrific accident. I believe this book is best as both a RA and an IR. Your students will gain much from hearing you read this and by reading it themselves

When she sends her friend on a search for a kangaroo and a mermaid before a storm rolls in, she begins to realize the difference between real and moonshine. This RF is perfect for RA and is sure to keep students attention through the emotional story and realistic illustrations.

I would also utilize EL strategy 17 by playing sounds of a harbor, and using facial expression and body language as I read.
