The Straight Razor Cure
The Straight Razor Cure | Daniel Polansky

Welcome to Low Town. Here, the criminal is king. People can disappear, and the lacklustre efforts of the guard ensure they are never found. Warden is an ex-soldier who has seen the worst men have to offer; now he's a narcotics dealer with a rich, bloody past and a way of inviting danger. But then a missing child is discovered in an alley, murdered and horribly mutilated. And then another. With a mind as sharp as a blade and an old but powerful friend in the city, he's the only man with a hope of finding the killer.

I chose this book because I‘m curious about the grimdark sub-genre, and this was listed in more than one place as a “must read.” While I couldn‘t say if this is a definitively representative grimdark title, I can definitively say I LOVED THIS BOOK! It‘s a fantasy with a noir feel and a sprinkling of horror. I can‘t wait to read the next in the series! 📚

A curious mix of urban fantasy and crime noir that shouldn't work, but blends together excellently. The MC is an ex-detective for the city of Rigus, fallen from grace for, as yet unknown reasons, who now works as a drug dealer in the slums of Low Town. His old detective instincts stir when a child murder leads to a bigger conspiracy. Book 1 of a trilogy. 4 💥💥💥💥

Ugly cover though, looks like a gem sprouting hair 🤣🤣

1. Tagged plus Duh! The Stupid History of the Human Race and The Shanghai Free Taxi on audio
2. Once Upon A Winter's Night by Dennis McKeirnan
3. I had 3 days off at the beginning of the week to relax and catch up on some reading. If I hadn't had a touch of the flu, it would have been perfect. 😁

Wasn‘t for me. I couldn‘t connect with the characters or the story.

Mehso-so

My thoughts on this one flipped between wanting it to just be done, already. And seeing myself tearing through the rest of the series. In the end, while I did enjoy it, and liked the gang at The Earl. I don't think I'll continue with more.

I was able to get into this finally-knocked out the last hundred pages today. I figured out the end before the big reveal but still enjoyed it

Having a hard time getting into this--the night circus had me flying through the pages while it's a struggle to read more than a chapter of this. I don't think it's the story necessarily, but I dunno. I'd like to get it done before the December so I can start my Christmas read though

Robothugs I would've picked that because of the cover... 😂 but it sounds really intriguing! I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts! 7y
