Are You Serious?
Are You Serious?: How to Be True and Get Real in the Age of Silly | Lee Siegel
2 posts
LeeSiegel, author of Falling Upwards, Not RemotelyControlled, and Against the Machine delivers a provocative critique ofmodern lightness and frivolity, and a timely guide to being serious in an unserious age. In the vein of The Culture of Narcissism, Shop Class as Soulcraft, and How Proust Can Change Your Life,Siegel offers a revelatory look at how a serious bearing is vital toaccomplishing any worthwhile goal in an era increasingly defined by a sardonicapproach to life.

My face when Goodreads or other book sites recommend books written by people I would like to see fall into a ditch (see: any person who is featured on Fox News regularly). I mean, please tell me how anything I read or want to read would remotely indicate I'd be down for that drivel?! 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Hollie I always wonder about how that works. Yesterday I searched "hunting hitler" in Netflix and under "titles related to hunting hitler" it suggested The Gilmore girls. WTF 7y
Suet624 @Hollie that's hysterical. 7y
haileybean Agreed. You'd think with having Amazon as a parent company their way of gathering algorithms for books you might actually be interested in would be better. 7y
MicheleinPhilly @haileyhugsbooks Amazon's algorithm could use some work too. They once suggested I buy 50 Shades of Grey "because you pre-ordered Go Set a Watchman." Uh...what? ? 7y
