2 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
Mistys Twilight is part thouroughbred, part Chinoteague pony, and one hundred percent fire and talent. A direct descendant of the most famous pony ever, Misty of Chinoteague, Twilight has greatness in her blood. Now its her turn to shine, perhaps as a cutting horse, a jumper, or in the graceful art of dressage. Can Twilight, whose ancestors were wild ponies living on an untamed island, do it? Can she compete against the best horses in the world...and win?

Misty's Twilight | Marguerite Henry

Day 23 of a book from my shelves with random thoughts - This is towards the bottom of Henry's books for me. Published much later in her career (and after the death of Wesley Dennis, hence the different illustrator), this book lacks a cohesive plot. Theoretically about a descendant of the famous Misty, it's really more about Twilight's owner, and since Twilight's owner isn't the one traveling about with Twilight, the whole book feels weirdly ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) distant. I think this may have been an attempt to introduce a new generation of readers to the Misty books (the original three stories, Misty of Chincoteague; Sea Star; & Stormy, Misty's Foal are all excellent), but it falls rather flat. While I highly recommend the original Misty trilogy, this one lacks that magic. 4y
crazyspine I live in Chincoteague. These books are the best! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @crazyspine - we went there once when I was a kid and I have always wanted to go back!! I will say that was the other weird thing about this particular book - it didn't really take place in Chincoteague, other than the character purchasing her pony. It's not a terrible story, but I really love the original three stories and this one just isn't up to that level. 4y
