My Name Is Truth
My Name Is Truth: The Life of Sojourner Truth | Ann Turner
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Here is the remarkable true story of how former slave Isabella Baumfree transformed herself into the preacher and orator Sojourner Truth, as told by acclaimed author Ann Turner and award-winning illustrator James Ransome. An iconic figure of the abolitionist and women's rights movements, Sojourner Truth famously spoke out for equal rights roughly one hundred years before the civil rights movement. This beautifully illustrated and impeccably researched picture book biography underwent expert review by two historians of the period. My Name Is Truth includes a detailed historical note, an archival photo, and a list of suggested supplemental reading materials. Written in the fiery and eloquent voice of Sojourner Truth herself, this moving story will captivate readers just as Sojourner's passionate words enthralled her listeners. Mine‘s pretty straightforward, many moons ago some friends and I started thinking about starting a book blog, after much thinking we went with Riveted Reader. The blog never went anywhere and was quickly abandoned, but I still loved the name, which pretty actually describes my reading style. So when it came time for a Litsy name, my given name Melissa was already taken, so I went with Riveted Reader Melissa instead, which was free.😉

Chelleo Cool! People always mix up my name with Melissa. I figure it‘ll make a good alias one day. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Chelleo I‘ve been called Michelle a few times too, I don‘t know why those two are so confusing for people 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Chelleo @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I work with a Melissa and we sit on a committee together. People always mix up our names even when we‘re both sitting right in front of them! 🤦🏾‍♀️ 6y

Something about my voice is like a blanket on a fretful baby then at times my voice is like Gabriel's trumpet, firing people up
