Reading a new Lucy Stone mystery is like catching up with a dear old friend. Kate Carlisle, New York Times bestselling author Its a nippy spring in Tinkers Cove, Maine, and so Lucy Stone cant wait to join her friend Sue at the Earl of Wickhams manor in England for the Heads Up! hat exhibitioneven if she has to spend her entire holiday curtseying. But at Moreton Manor, privileged life isnt always tea and crumpets . . . Although Perry, the earl of the house, and his sister, Poppy, are surprisingly accommodating to their jetlagged guests, Lucy feels uneasy after a fallen portrait sparks talk of a deadly family omen. The bad vibes come in quicklysnobby Aunt Millicent and her handmaiden Harrison unexpectedly drop by for the exhibition, and meals with the family are consistently tense. But real trouble begins when a body, bludgeoned by the chapels gold-plated reliquary, is found in a hidden, sealed off room. Stranger still, the corpse is identified as Harrisons son, Cyril. Considering the weapon and the clandestine location, Lucy wouldnt be shocked if the murder was an inside job. Cyril wasnt exactly a gentleman, and its unclear what business he had on the property. Was the victim trying to make off with the family riches before meeting his end? Or was a scorned country squire looking to settle an ancient indiscretion for good? One things for surethe criminal is privy to Moreton Manor secrets . . . To end the reign of terror, Lucy must keep her ear to the ground and mind time-honored traditionsno matter how unusual. Because Lucy has a hunch that the killer has been in her company all along, just waiting for a chance to make blueblood run red . . . Praise for Leslie Meier and her Lucy Stone Mysteries I like Lucy Stone a lot, and so will readers. Carolyn Hart Leslie Meier writes with sparkle and warmth. I‘ve read some of the Lucy Stone mysteries before but I haven‘t read much of the series. I picked this one up at the library because the cover looked so cute. It was just ok (btw, there are no corgis in this book!). I didn‘t think the setting was used to its potential. It was a quick read though.

#OutstandingOctober readathon book two for me

The first book is English Tea Murder, Lucy and three of her friends go with a college group to England. But even before they get there one of the group dies on the plane.
The next story British Manor Murder Lucy goes with her friend Sue to England to have a small vacation at a manor. They find out that the owners of the manor are not living the life of luxury like you would think but have many problems.

The tagged book is one of two books contained within this new twofer 😁 Love the cute cover, didn't love the first story which I had read previously but did enjoy the second story more. It's a fun series though and I'd recommend it if you like cozy mysteries.

I was trying to take a litsy pic of me enjoying the 72 degree weather on my new turf and discovered it is hard to do that with kids and dogs.

And the binge-read continues, book three of the five remaining books in the series now complete. Two more to go. Not my favorite in this batch so far, not bad but just not as compelling. It's also quite likely that it just may be my state of mind with the busyness of the holidays, starting the fourth of the five books I have out of the library tonight.
