I saw one of my favorite childhood books today at BJ‘s (first was Grandfather Twilight) and got so excited. Shown: AI‘s version of cloudy with a chance of meatballs 🤣 The second image is nice, with it being the 1st day of Pride, and the clouds are trans colors! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🍽️🍝☁️

Similar to books like Before the coffee gets cold and What you are looking for is in the library. The Kamogawa diner is a restaurant with a difference. There is no sign and no reviews, but they can find your food. People coming to the agency are looking to recreate a dish from their past, and the agency can make it happen!

I enjoyed it overall but I would have preferred there to be more details about the actual investigating.

bookandbedandtea @ElizaMarie I'm enjoying the heck out of my Saturday! Even more so knowing Monday is a holiday... my last paid holiday, New Years Day, was a looong time ago! 1w
bookandbedandtea @Cathythoughts Isn't it, though? The title definitely made me curious about the book 1w
bookandbedandtea @fredthemoose The writing is beautifully descriptive! 1w

I read this book during my lunch breaks at work. This book provides a look back at the past glory of the New York Times food critic. A job so important Ruth Reichl had to invent new persona to allow anonymous restaurant visits. Her chapter on the restaurant at the Twin Towers was poignant knowing what would happen a few years into the future. I really enjoyed this one and there‘s lots of recipes too. 👍👍🐉

Mehso-so

Arguments are clear and reached. There are valid points made. I can agree to a point with some of them. I whole heartedly disagree with factory farming and industrial farming has its serious downsides. I don‘t believe the author has a solid feasible solution however. His ideas are great, small food producers, less chemicals, less chemical modifications. To achieve that in the US the entirety of everything would have to change.
More 👇🏼

OrangeMooseReads You will never get the people to change to achieve those goals. I do agree that our food needs to change and the way we eat food needs to change. Again the author‘s solution went back to farming and how we farm. 3⭐️ it is interesting and he lays out his argument well. 1w
RamsFan1963 His assertion that the Agricultural Revolution was the biggest mistake mankind has ever made was one of the things that stuck in my craw 1w
OrangeMooseReads @RamsFan1963 yeah that was a bit much. 1w

This book gave me Before the Coffee Gets Cold vibes, without the sci-fi touch to it. People come to the Kamogawa Detective Agency, which is also a cafe, looking to have a favorite dish recreated. These dishes have memories attached to them for the cafe‘s clients, who usually end up learning something from their visits. It‘s a quiet book and a quick read.

Little Rhubarb Galette. The crust is buttery and flaky like phyllo dough. The whole thing is delicious. Recipe here: https://www.vermontcreamery.com/products/mini-rhubarb-galettes

mcctrish Ooo looks delicious and I still have some rhubarb to harvest 🤔 2w
JenniferEgnor @mcctrish I‘m jealous. It doesn‘t grow well in the south! 2w
mcctrish That‘s a shame, it‘s the lowest maintenance food stuff to grow imo 2w
JenniferEgnor @mcctrish 🤣. I plan on growing it when we move north. Have you heard of the ‘forced‘ growing method? 2w
Purpleness That looks delicious! Enjoy 2w

Started this one today. So far not bad

RamsFan1963 I read this about 3 years ago, and found a lot of it very interesting. I disagree with the author on some issues, like the importance of the Agricultural Revolution, but he presents his ideas in a clear, intelligent style. 2w
OrangeMooseReads @RamsFan1963 he did do his research that is for sure. 2w
