What happens when the fictional 'perfect guy' comes to life and is convinced you're his soulmate? While her parents are away for the week, sixteen-year-old Ivy McIntosh plans on binge-watching her favourite TV show and hanging out with her best friend, Henry. But things quickly go downhill on the very first morning, when Ivy wakes up to find Weston, the gorgeous lead character of her favourite show, in her bedroom. And, oh yeah, he thinks that she's his soulmate. Ivy realizes that her writing has somehow brought Weston as she's imagined him to life, and now he's living out her fanfiction dreams. But those fairytale dreams soon turn into disasters. Mack, Ivy's best-friend-turned-enemy who lives next door, and Henry get involved and the three of them need to figure out why Weston is here and how to get rid of him. As Ivy and Mack grow closer again, old feelings resurface and they finally face the fallout of their broken friendship, and question if they've both secretly always wanted something more . . . The new sapphic YA friends-to-enemies-to-lovers novel from bestselling author Sophie Gonzales, with her trademark humour and heart.

Ivy and Mack were best friends, but are no longer on speaking terms after a big blow-up; instead, Ivy hangs out with Henry, and they can geek out over a fantasy show they both love. Then Ivy's parents leave on a trip, and late at night she writes a fan-fic of the main character, Weston...who comes to life. Cute, funny, sapphic, friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance as Ivy discovers she needs Mack's help dealing with Weston.

Mehso-so

Although in theory this book sounded great, the execution didn't grab me as much as I'd hoped. This is a YA with a BFFs to enemies to girlfriends subplot, with the main plot focusing on how the protagonist Ivy suddenly wakes up to find her fanfic version of Weston, the hero of her fav fabtasy TV show, has come to life, with funny and then more serious consequences. This would probably be more of a hit with the intended teen audience than me.

I dnfed the last Sophie Gonzales after loving the first book of hers I read, so I wasn't sure which way this one was going to go. So far, I am intrigued! Why did these two ex-BFFs have a friend break-up? This show the main character loves sounds like Buffy -- love it!

This was a fun trip. A great friendship story, a queer story, and a fanfic story. Not much of a romance, although there are romantic moments. Coming to Australia in April. #aprilrso2024 #digitalproof #contemporary #magicalrealism #fanfic #bookly
