The Last Book Party | Karen Dukess

Pickpick

☀️🌊 A quick S U M M E R Y novel giving you all the feels of the Cape‘s sand dunes, beaches and sea. It centers on post-graduate Eve who‘s trying to find herself during time spent as the famed NYorker writer Henry Grey‘s assistant. I love all the mentions of classic/fict books + adored librarian Alva.
Karen Dukess‘s first novel is well-written w/an imaginative storyline + intriguing characters (all less than perfect) making this a 4 ★ pick for me.

The Golden Hour: A Novel | Beatriz Williams

4.5 ☆ My third and favorite so far of Beatriz Williams!! I loved the WWl/WWll historical settings & was fascinated w/the Duke and Duchess of Windsor‘s over the top lifestyle. With two likable main characters that alternated between Elfriede during the turn of the 19th century + Lulu in the 1940‘s w/spies, marriage + murder I was completely engaged from start to finish. I enjoyed the intriguing dual storylines and wasn‘t quite ready for it to end.

5 hot and fiery stars!! 🔥 Say No to the Duke is the 4th novel in The Wilde‘s of Lindow Castle series and (yesss!) is the first book in this series with a female lead character—Lady Boadicea (Betsy) Wilde. A wonderful story all around but very unique with the issue of PTSD addressed. I especially enjoyed the pokes of fun and steamy love/hate relationship going on between Betsy and Jeremy! Can be read as a stand alone.

4.5 ☆ A powerful character driven story that proved to be an emotional read for me about love, friendship, family dynamics, coming of age, mental health, alcoholism, infidelity and so much more. A terrible tragedy happens changing the Gleeson/Stanhope families forever but you‘ll find when reading further how pain + resentment ultimately gives way to acceptance + forgiveness. This is one I‘ll be thinking about for quite a while. ❥

I‘ve been a fan of Belle‘s since reading The Marriage Lie then Three Days Missing both w/female driven characters. “Even the prickliest cactus has its flower.. ”

Susan‘s not a very likable character, she can be prickly, brittle + dry (unemotional) + keeps her life under control. After reading her mother‘s will leaving the family home to her feckless brother + learning she‘s expecting a baby (in her 40‘s) her prickles start flexing! She‘s hard to warm up to but the laugh out loud moments made up for it. 3.5 ☆

Get. Out. Of. Town. This latest book from Kaira Rouda definitely threw me for a loop as KR takes the unreliable narrator to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.

Perfect Jane. Life is all about Jane. She‘s the best at everything, is the perfect role model other women look up to and the hottest woman in town.

KR hit the nail on the head describing Jane‘s narcissistic behavior making this was one crazy roller coaster of a ride that kept me guessing to the end!

4.5 ☆ My first book by this author, Drawing Home HAS DRAWN ME IN!!
I very much enjoyed the mystery surrounding famous artist Henry Wyatt‘s will, then there‘s my love of the arts, architecture + building restoration. Is about Helen Gurley Brown‘s dedication, struggles and outside the box (cringe-worthy to some) thinking as the new Editor-in-Chief of the famed Cosmopolitan magazine. In 1965 women didn‘t have many places to advance high-up in the working world. Enter small town girl Alice Weiss, hired as secretary to HGB + being pulled by others to sabotage her new boss. A fascinating story that gave me great insight into the challenges facing women back then.
