An incredible look into the events surrounding the murder of one of the most powerful and revered Sioux chiefs. Powers uses extensive sources to compose one of the best histories of the Plains Wars, as well as give an accurate picture of the complexity involved in Sioux factional politics. A must read.

A splendid journey through the Reconstruction frontier. Very reminiscent of True Grit, but in the best way possible. The ending will leave you an emotional mess.

Excellent and relatively critical overview of the life of this astounding figure. This is a prime example of how History and Biography can bring in readers from all spectrums and interests.

Slow burn western fantasy noir, perfect for anyone just wanting a good quick read that actually pays off in the end.

Great book for those looking to see the experiences of a teacher caught between the pressures of encouraging his students, most of whom exist in the most segregated school system in the country, and the corporate administration.
