The Turn of the Key is about Rowan who accepts a nanny position that pays really well. Rowan moves into this "smart house" and strange and mysterious things start happening. The book starts of with Rowan writing letters to a lawyer because she is accused of killing a child. She needs help because she claims she did not do it.

Not impressed 😔 I listened to the audiobook and listened along. I found the synopsis of the story intriguing. About a small town and 4 powerful families keeping the town safe from a monster. Each family has some kind of special power. I found the story lacked a lot of detail. I had a hard time picturing some or most of the scenes. I didnt find any one character that I thoroughly enjoyed or cared about. Maybe the cat 🤷‍♀️

mandi1082 I just found myself waiting for something dramatic to happen but found myself reading a book that is so forgetful. 2w

The Good Luck Girls | Charlotte Nicole Davis

Due out Oct 1, 2019
4⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Good Luck Girls is an Adventure seeking revenge type of story. It is said that it reminds people of the Handmaids Tale set in the Wild wild west. Well it's more wild wild West then it is Handmaids Tale. With that being said I still enjoyed this story written by debut author Charlotte Nicole Davis.

mandi1082 You have Clementine who 'accidentally' kills a brag (male customer) so her and her sister Aster decide to go on the run with other Good Luck Girls Violet, Tallow and Mansy. On the way they meet Zee a Rangeman who will help them get to Lady Ghost to get their tattoos remove that let everyone know they are Good Luck Girls so they can live normal lives.

If you read one memoir this year this should be it! I found this intriguing and fascinating. A woman who practically was brought up with little to no education and goes out and concurs everything she set up herself to do. In this memoir you find out about her family life and the physical and mental abuse she had to go through with her brother and her father. Her mother who tried to be there for her but kept held back by her religion and her faith.

mandi1082 This book deals with a lot of issues such as grief, animal cruelty, rape, murder and even global issues. This is the kind of book that I pick and then I cant put down. I loved the characters in this book. Kya who is the main protagonist lives in the Marsh area and one by one all her family leaves. She eventually ends up all alone as a little girl taking care of herself just surviving. Tate befriends her and teachs her how to read. This story Is part Crime part Romance. When Chase is found murdered all fingers point to Kya..did she kill Chase Andrews?

cj82487 Omg I still think about this book! I loved the imagery and I wanted to finish but didnt want it to end at the same time! & Jumpin was my favorite character. Him and his wife (cant remember her name) took in Kya and did as much as they could. This one totally lived up to the hype 2mo

2️⃣⭐⭐
Everest trys to commit suicide and the whole school finds out. The students of the school treat him badly that he feels like he has nowhere to go so he ends up at the library where he meets Beverly.

mandi1082 The writing was okay and the flow was good, but the way the messages were handled did not sit with me well. Somebody is depressed so the kids start bullying him for trying to commit suicide. 😤 Even his father treats him like garbage which could be where his depression comes from but was not really talked about all that much. 🤷‍♀️ 3mo
mandi1082 The racism in this book calling Everst black beauty which is a horse by the way or the way Everest father said good thing where having chicken tonight.🤬 3mo

When Tyler commits a foul deed he is served with a summer of probation and community service. mandi1082 When naked pictures of Bethany start to show up on the internet the blame is automatically pointed at Tyler.

mandi1082 I loved this book. I usually do not pick up a book with magical realism because it's not for me but this only had a tad bit in it. The flow of the story worked so well for me that I finished it quickly. This story broke my heart over and over again into tiny little pieces. I really enjoyed this book. It's about a girl who is Muslim trying to just live her life but the struggles she has to face with racism in her every day life. When Zayneb gets suspended from school for a drawing she is sent to stay with her aunt in Qatar. There she meets Adam who is facing his own struggles. I really liked how this book was written and enjoyed the interactions among all the characters.

This graphic novel is so cute and fun to read. The main protagonist is named Nova who is a witch and lives with her two grandmothers. Nova discovers her friend Tam is back in town and they find themselves trying to defeat a demon.

Things I love is that the two main characters are Chinese American
Nova is hard of hearing and Tam is non-binary. Also the grandmothers are in a relationship together. I liked the pictures and the story is cute.

I went into this book not knowing what it was about. I liked the way the cover looked along with its title. I knew it was about a married couple and that's about it. I like the way the book was written with the different times of the day as chapters. Your not sure where this story is going until everything starts piecing together. I suggest this read but may not be for everybody.

mandi1082 This graphic novel is about a boy and a friend whose family pay a bad coyote to help them get to Guatemalan to the United States. His Country is not safe for young boys who are often led into gangs or killed. This story describes their journey to America and even what happens when they get there. I really enjoy reading and learning about what going on in our border towns and immigration.

mandi1082 I felt like this story lacked some details or description in the writing to get me feeling just a little emotional or feelings on what is going on. Yes it is really sad. I see it on the news read it on the internet. I wanted to feel it in this story. I thought the pictures were beautiful but wish they would has been in color to see more detail. Received a review copy from Annick Press and Netgalley. All thoughts are my own.

mandi1082 I had so much fun reading Ever Alice. Thank you Netgalley for providing me an Arc of this book for an honest review.
Ever Alice starts off with Alice being in a mental institution for going "Mad." This book is basically a sequel written by a different author on what happened to Alice after she got home from Wonderland.

mandi1082 In this book we meet all the famous characters that we met in Alice in Wonderland except they all have different names. Like the the Queen of Hearts whose name is Rosamund. This book was adventures at times made me laugh a lot and just brought me back to my childhood. I highly recommend this read. 3mo

5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I had so much reading this book about the First son of the United States and his hate to love relationship with the Prince of Wales. This book made me laugh out loud. Made me sad at times and I just adored it. It made me think if how great our country could be if people were more open minded. I highly suggest this read.

Blueroseis I liked your review and may be tempted to purchase this book. One slight point, is that it is about the Prince of Wales. A title usually given to the oldest son of the reining monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Being English but living in Wales not England I thought it was worth a mention.

mandi1082 @Blueroseis thanks for letting me know. I will fix that. 😁 3mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Blueroseis It's Alternate Reality. In the book he is called Prince Henry of Wales. FYI there is Artistic License taken with British Royal Family. That may bother you. I personally loved a world with the President of USA being a smart, strong woman. 3mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig @mandi1082 I absolutely adored this book. It made me so incredibly happy. I finished it and immediately wanted to read again. 😍 3mo
Blueroseis It is starting to sound great. I think I will certainly be buying it soon. I don't think it will be that long before the USA will have a Lady President. The current Prince Harry's Real name was Prince Henry although he us now a Duke. Its all a bit confusing. 3mo
mandi1082 @Crinoline_Laphroaig me too!!! But I have sooo many books and not enough time. 3mo

I want to start of by thanking Netgalley for providing me a copy of Cherokee Summer for an honest review.

Cherokee Summer is about two teens who come from two different worlds and fall in love. Ace and John might come from different backgrounds but both face similar experiences.
