I found this very slow and not terribly satisfying. It felt like set-up for book three. We'll see. That's next on the list.

The shole is advancing and within it lie monsters. A young fey boy qualifies as a gate grub, charged with going into the shole to do dangerous tasks. The story was interesting, but everything seemed to happen too quickly, was over and done with and just accepted as so.

An interesting volume of Asimov's first stories, which he freely admits weren't up to much, in the commentary. In fact, that commentary is the really interesting part. I have volume two, as well, but I think I'll leave it a while before diving in.

Megabooks I don‘t find much classic horror scary. Maybe our fears have evolved? Maybe it‘s CGI? 2mo

Audio version. A tale of two girls lost in the wilderness and looked after by a pair of Tasmanian tigers, told by one of them looking back over her life. I enjoyed the first half, but not so much the second, which dealt more with life after returning to civilisation.

ReadingRover I have this on audiobook too. Haven‘t listened to it yet. 3mo
JulietBoydAuthor @ReadingRover It's well narrated, but the style of language takes a little getting used to. 2mo

The Fire Court | Andrew Taylor

A murder mystery set in 1667. This second book pretty much carries on where the first left off. The Fire Court is tasked with getting the parts of London that were destroyed rebuilt as quickly as possible. Some people are determined to get their way. Cue illegal goings on. An enjoyable sequel. Possibly a little longer than it needed to be.

Anna40 Heard about this one! Not a big fan of historical fiction but it does sound good 3mo

Reader's Digest Select Edition. Set in two time periods of late 1970s and early 2000s, an original crime investigation and a cold case review, it revolves around the murder of a young woman in Scotland. I guessed whodunnit fairly early on, but I think I might have been meant to.

To my mind, this is everything a retelling of ancient myths should be. It has personality, humour and a lot of references to modern life, such as how the Greek gods have given us certain words. If you don't add something of yourself to the myths, then you're simply copying, which is pointless.

Audio version. Two stories revolving around the Mohawk tale of the skeleton man. I enjoyed the first story in this duology much more than the second. It felt unnecessary. It wasn't a bad story, but I didn't need everything to be tied up nicely. I quite like endings where you are left to decide the truth.
