A good read feautirng stolen art in WWII Paris, switching between 1940 and 2015. It's a good read, but the transitions between time periods are sometimes jarring. 4/5 stars for me

A great historical fiction read, the first in Cornwell's series set during the Napoleonic era. Some of the battle scenes are a bit wordy, but still a good read.

A historical narrative of military folly - Vietnam, British loss of the U.S. colonies, etc. - from Pulitzer Prize winner Barbara Tuchman. A good read, but sometimes the details overwhelm. 4/5 stars

Not for everyone, but a well-researched insight into English history featuring Eleanor of Provence and Eleanor de Montfort

Ace Atkins continued the Spenser series after Robert B. Parker's death. Angel Eyes is a good read, but not as good as Parker was. Still 4 out of 5 stars

Vera Atkins was an SOE agent who managed different spy networks in France during WWII. The narrative could have been better organized, and is at times repetitive, but it paints a portrait of a woman more secretive than the spies she managed, fueling post-war theories that she was a double agent.

I loved this book. Ove is such a great character - the grumpy old man with a heart of gold. We all know someone just like him.

I know these old Westerns seem corny by today's standards, but what a wonderful, wholesome story with vivid descriptions and plenty of twists and turns. Not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.

Ruthiella My mom used to read his books. I have a Louis Lamour book on my TBR. Other than Lonesome Dove, I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a western. 7mo
Johnanthonymiller @Ruthiella I read some Louis Lamour years ago, but this is the first western I've read in a long time. I actually bought a bunch of original Zane Grey on Ebay - the dust jackets are beautiful - and this is the first one I read. 7mo

The King's General | Daphne Du Maurier

A must read for Du Maurier fans. Set during the English Civil War, it's written in first person with a strong female protagonist and the rich narrative so typical of Du Maurier. Not for everyone but I loved it.

This book is about time travel - modern to 1600's, the first of a series. Although the story is good, the different POVs and detailed descriptions made it a slow read for me. But it's still worth a look..

This was a great biography of Paul McCartney - well organized and very detailed. A must read for Beatles fans.

The Nazi Hunters | Andrew Nagorski
post image
Mehso-so

The Nazi Hunters details the post-WWII process to bring Nazi war criminals to justice. Although well-researched and full of information, it wasn't structured well and almost seemed like random chapters that told more about the researchers than the criminals. I also did not like the extremely detailed descriptions of atrocities committed, and found myself skipping whole passages to avoid them (too sick and heart-wrenching, even though true).

This is a great book for military historians, providing detailed analysis of three great generals - Alexander the Great, Wellington, and Grant - as well as the infamous Adolph Hitler.

Johnanthonymiller @Milara So true. Keegan does a good job describing what horrible decisions Hitler made - from a military perspective. 10mo

For anyone interested in the life of a writer, I provided the link to an hour-long interview I did with an Atlanta radio station to discuss my novel, FOR THOSE WHO DARE. It offers some insight into publishing timelines, literary agents, the writing process, etc.

This is a good book for those interested in researching secret societies and their role in history, but it could be better organized. It's strictly facts - not many stories - and can make for a long read at times.

Book 7 of the Will & Ariel Durants' Story of Civilization. This eleven volume series is really a must-read for global history buffs. It has incredible detail that also includes art, music, literature, philosophy, scientific discoveries, etc. I highly recommend anything Durant wrote for history and philosophy lovers.

TheSpineView Sounds in the vain of Michener. I have been meaning to read Space for years but have not gotten around to it yet. 12mo
