It was interesting. Reading accounts of slavery always bothers me but I like history and am getting caught up in the story - it's a series. The naïveté of the people thinking there couldn't be a war and if there was, it would be brief and practically painless, just astounds me.

This book was the first I'd read by Melter, and now I plan to read more. It was like a Dan Brown novel in my mind, and I enjoyed the history, suspense, and mystery woven into the story.
