It was fun to spend time with Mona again and I liked that Jane stayed somewhat on the sidelines of this mystery (versus finding the body.) I appreciate that Barron isn't writing each of these mysteries with the same formula, each one has something interesting & unique that keeps the series interesting!

Ruthiella I need to get back to this series! 4mo

I‘m a tad behind 🤣😂👋🏼

However this is my favorite one to date!!!

“Jane,” he said bracingly, “we require a revival of your formidable spirit – one I have not seen in nearly two years. “ 👀

Now to acquire the next book!

janeycanuck I‘m only on book 5 so you‘re doing way better than me!! 11mo
TheBookHippie @janeycanuck I‘m weirdly enjoying these -it‘s a weird comfort read. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 11mo

#Pemberlittens posting this month's
#JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong discussion early. Tomorrow is the busy day after a 3 day weekend. Today I'm lounging on the porch.

🌟 SPOILERS IN COMMENTS!🌟

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1️⃣ Chapter 1. ?
2️⃣ Henry. He's such a good brother in this one. Plus I loved this: "Ah,” Henry said knowledgeably. “And at the cold collation that is certain to follow—not even the General could be so remiss in what is due to his daughter as to forgo the cold collation!

11mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig 3️⃣ “Worthing?” His tone of revulsion was not propitious. “Jane, only such relicts of the country gentry as are tottering on the edge of their graves, seek to be known in Worthing.”

"Let it be the taffeta, my dearest Jane."

Not from book but rather from @stephaniebarronfrancinemathews interview included at the end. "I like the realm of possibility; it‘s the bedrock of all my writing, and far more interesting than the known world."
11mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ I would quickly tire of fashionable crowd at Brighton. Give me quiet rambles along the Cobb at Lyme.

5️⃣ Google tells me Avg May sea temperatures off Brighton are 11.6°C / 52.9°F. 🥶 Surely there will be tea at the cold collation!

6️⃣ As long as Bryon doesn't dump us in the sea, I rather be above ground and in the fresh air.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ While I know quite a bit about Eliza de Feuillide, I didn't know she died of breast cancer. I would like to read a biography of her.

8️⃣ Everyone is aging and it shows "The Autumn of my life is come— my hopes of happiness long since buried in an unmarked grave— and how long, pray, shall the sun endure, before Winter?"

Crinoline_Laphroaig In June we are off to Godmersham Park, Kent in the autumn of 1813 with Jane and the Canterbury Tale. Counting down to Release of last in the series: Jane and the Final Mystery.

kspenmoll 1) stand out- when she met up with Desdemona, the Rogue‘s niece. 2) Fav character-Henry. Felt I got to know him & their close relationship in depth. 3) “Mad. A poet touched by the insane. A diabolical figure of licence and flame, armed with a pen.”(50) 4) a solitary ramble along the Cobb 5) cold sea bathing 6) exploring the tunnels 7) I love the detail of all the clothing, but I learned about their bathing machines- they fascinated me, along 🔽 (edited) 11mo
kspenmoll 🔼 the whole prudishness of the Victorian Age. 8) This took me awhile to get into but once I was engaged it was a wonderful ride, especially the characterization of so many characters. Looking forward to the Canterbury Tales. 11mo
kspenmoll Tried to mark as spoiler- not sure it worked 11mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @kspenmoll Henry really shined in this one! 11mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @kspenmoll after our solitary rambles, we can meet for tea. 11mo
TheBookHippie Finishing today I‘m a bit behind 😅😵‍💫 11mo
TheBookHippie 4- I SO AGREE. I just could not do it. 😵‍💫 11mo
TheBookHippie 7- I agree I think that would be a fascinating read. I admit I googled I really didn‘t have a grasp on who she was. 11mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig Of all the Being a Jane Austen Mystery Series, this one and June's Jane and the Canterbury Tale I've read the least. Having only read for #JaneAndTheYear2020 so looking forward to reading a 2nd time.

TheBookHippie I am picking up my copy at the library tomorrow! They have TWO copies! There is no rhyme or reason as to which books in this series they carry! So bizarre!
11mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie my Library has none in print and only No. 12 & 14 digitally. 🤷‍♀️ 11mo

‘The famed nineteenth century poet and rake, Lord Byron, comes to life in a searing blend of fact and fiction..‘
Last book of October. This was a good, well written, gothic story. It‘s a dark tale featuring Lord Byron as a vampire and has appearances by John Polidori, and Percy and Mary Shelley. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was utterly enthralling.A Victorian thriller,it traces a fictionalized life of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein.A brilliant piece of historical detective work. The author‘s Notes explain the extensive historical research behind the novel & how she drew her conclusions.”Psychologically penetrating”,she paints riveting pictures of Shelley,Byron,Percy Shelley, her step sister Claire, the Godwins. She questions the deaths of Mary‘s children🔽

kspenmoll And the suicides surrounding the couple. Searing, yet sympathetic inditement, of Mary as the author imagines, “What if?”. 3y
