Today the caterpillar we watched become a chrysalis not long ago (see earlier post) emerged as a butterfly. She was one of three who emerged and flew off today. We reared purchased monarchs indoors for several years in Massachusetts, but this is our first time watching wild monarchs from egg to butterfly.

Crazeedi Just awesome!❤️❤️❤️ 1w

Meh. This one didn‘t work for me. Maybe it‘s the fact that I have been to a LOT of butterfly gardens - and they would never just let you walk out with a butterfly. And bringing a bunch of monarchs in a bag to release for migration? Not how it‘s done! I‘m being an adult grump about the inaccuracies.

JSW I join you in grouchland. I hate inaccuracies like that, that can be easily fixed with just a short google visit. 1w
LibrarianRyan I get it. I have those same feelings about books. 1w

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children‘s picture book. It is a traditional literature book. A New York Times best seller. It follows a caterpillar who eats his way through foods to eventually become a beautiful butterfly. This book would pair well with EL strategy 43 that requires students to underline key words or important facts in written assignments.

MeaganM This could be taught in tangent with a science unit for Kindergarten life cycles and utilizes UDL 1.3 to offer alternatives to visual processing. A model for the life cycle could accomplish this. 2w
MeaganM #ucflae3414su19 This would be a fantastic book to launch an author study. He has written many great books similar to this one and it would be a great opportunity to find out where his ideas come from. A website to complete this strategy would be

DeannaP I agree that It would be a great book to launch an authors study on! I have a good majority of his books and love them! 2w

Kingsolver is a masterful storyteller and just so amazing at narrating her own books. I love her smooth, honeyed voice building up these characters that become a little bit real. This one was a bit too long, and Prodigal Summer still holds the spot for my favorite of hers, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.

We have a couple dozen monarch butterfly caterpillars on the milkweed plant in our backyard. It must be feeling crowded to them because I found this one on a geranium on the other side of the patio. I started to move her back to the milkweed, but then I thought maybe she knows what she's doing better than I do.

This book is Fiction. The story is About a Caterpillar that can not wait to become a beautiful butterfly. The story talks about the phases a Caterpillar goes through and how impatiently he is to wait. The book is well illustrated and takes a humorous approach. I would use this as a shared reading.
Awards: none
EL: Audio available,easy text, visuals
UDL:3.1

Bmelendez92 This would be a great tag along for the very hungry caterpillar, thanks for the share! I will be using these for when we do our butterfly week :) having a variety of books about the same topic can be handy! 1mo
gergana08 This is a great book that teaches a great concept. What a beautiful way to teach the concept of how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. The visuals and humor make it understandable for the EL students. 1mo
