I loved this story. You don‘t find conjoined twins as main characters ... well, ever. I liked both sisters — very different personalities. I liked the focus on their new friendships and how much they wanted to help the family, not be a burden.

I laughed often. I cried a little. I hugged the book hard.

Quick read. Leo‘s mom has been deployed, dad is working long hours. That puts Leo, 16, “second in command.” He looks out for his younger siblings.
Jack, 13, is angry. Falls in with the wrong crowd. Leo tries to help.

Told in verse, this is a great novel to hand to some reluctant readers. From West 44 Books. So glad I found these — current, relevant, engaging for reluctant readers.

After a natural disaster tears apart her home, Snub — Young Femal gorilla — is left to care for younger brother and, after watching the not-gorillas, makes the decision to take a young not-gorilla with her.

Snub takes on the mother role well. Trying to get home, the trio face many obstacles.

Set during the Paleolithic era ... be sure to read the Q&A at the end of the book.

#huggable — I cried 😢

This could have been a one sitting read — I got started on it late and my eyes were drying out 😂

This is a story that needs to be shared. I can‘t think of another that covers this side of the justice system for teens.

I was captivated by Xiomara and her story. Parts were heartbreaking. I‘m glad I got to know her and Twin. There was a moment near the end where I thought I was going to abandon the book — or throw it across the room. But I didn‘t have to and the end made this book #huggable 🙂
